These Pakistani Romantic Comedy Movies Will Make You Forget Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham

By MangoBaaz Studio | 30 Dec, 2017

Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham sits atop the list of best Bollywood romcoms of all time. And the title is well-deserved, if we may say so ourselves. With a storyline that has the perfect mix of romance, comedy, family drama and the ultimate happy ending? K3G is nothing short of iconic.

Pakistani cinema is on the rise lately and has been coming out with fantastic productions. The last few years oversaw well-thought out scripting, great camerawork paired with some terrific acting. It’s basically one of our hobbies to sit back, relax and absolutely BINGE watch all of our Pakistani favorites on iflix.

And friends, now you can too. Here are a few Pakistani romcoms you can binge-watch after a long day or during the weekend that have just what you’re looking for:

Jawani Phir Nahi Ani

Jawani Phir Nahi Ani had the makings of the perfect feel-good production. Complete with formulaic item numbers, the desi rendition of “The Hangover” had its fair share of twists and turns.

With the boys’ bachelor trip before their best friends’ wedding and the typical married-life woes, the film packaged relatable content from the get-go. Packed with a star-studded cast including Humayun Saeed, Mehwish Hayat, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Sohai Ali Abro, Javed Sheikh, Ayesha Khan, Sarwat Gillani and the comedic value that Vasay Choudry and Ahmad Ali Butt bring, JPNA is a treat for a lazy afternoon with a bucketload of popcorn.

Ho Mann Jahan

Ho Mann Jahan gave us the Shaadi anthem of the year with Shakkar Wadaan and took over the local weddings with a storm. With the dream team of three very *ahem* good-looking individuals.

Mahira Khan, Adeel Hussain and Sheheryar Munawar gave everyone squad goals with their friendship, romance, music, teenage rebellion and the ultimate “love conquers all” in the film’s version of every high school drama ever.  The great surprise is Mahira herself who has managed to experiment with not only her look but her portrayal of the carefree young, independent woman. The fluff movie is great to watch on a sleepover or an iflix marathon with your bae.

Karachi Se Lahore

Picture this: the ultimate road trip from one metropolis to the other for not just the quest for the perfect biryani but the love of your life.

The film features beautiful scenes from all over Pakistan, the deserts that turn into plateaus. An introspection of Pakistani culture, food, landscapes ultimately leading to winning the girl of your dreams (or not). The movie has stunning visuals and is the subject of envy for all Pakistanis. The cast includes Ayesha Omar and introduced new faces like Yasir Hussain and Shahzad Sheikh on the big screen.

Actor In Law

The movie garnered massive critical acclaim and for good reason: the strong performance by Fahad Mustafa made it all the more worthwhile. Actor In Law was more than your regular romcom, it came with substance.

The theme revolves around the common desi misconception of forcing our children to mold themselves into either doctors or engineers, as far as career choices are concerned. The protagonist not only breaks free of this expectation but also manages to great some great comic relief. If that doesn’t strike your fancy, the movie has an outstanding performance by Om Puri and notably, one of his last before tragically passing away.

Bachaana

The romantic thriller (still works, doesn’t it?) that had everyone ship Sanam Saeed and Mohib Mirza.

The storyline involves an Indian girl stuck in Mauritius in a weird twist of fate and saved by the very unlikely knight in shining armor, a Pakistani cab driver. There’s a whirlwind of action with some fast driving and narcotics and you have yourself a pretty good action-packed love story, but of course.

Wrong No

A typical dramatic local produce, Wrong No has the ‘rags to riches’ storyline following the changes of one Punjabi dreamboy trying to make it big in the film industry.

The film follows Danish Taimoor’s journey as the protagonist is faced with the career path set for him by his father who is a butcher. The girl next door is craving his attention but to no avail. Things start to get more and more twisted as more characters are thrown into the mix. This romcom is nothing short of a mindless watching session full of entertainment.
