Sajal Aly attended the first day of the ‘Pakistan International Film Festival’ (PIFF) in Karachi yesterday, along with a panel of esteemed veterans like Nandita Das, Vishal Bhardwaj, Rekha Bhardwaj, SS Rajamouli, Asim Raza among others. The four-day event is set to showcase Pakistani films, coupled with various panel discussions about the future of Pakistani cinema and relations with our Indian counterpart.
Sajal Aly confessed how she always gets incredibly nervous before starting a project, and it’s like she’s doing it for the first time
She admitted to getting the heebie-jeebies before every venture, expressing how even the applause she received at the panel made her incredibly skittish.
She also told the audience how she couldn’t believe it when Boney Kapoor called her himself for Bollywood film ‘Mom,’ and thought it was some sort of a prank
The actress was in denial and brushed it off as a mere joke when he said he wished her to play Sridevi’s daughter in the film. Sajal ended up meeting both Boney Kapoor and Sridevi in Dubai shortly afterward to discuss the film.
Sajal beautifully expressed the dire need for greater unison between India and Pakistan and was incredibly heartbroken when she couldn’t make it to India to promote ‘Mom’
The actress emphasized how important it was to work together, and said it doesn’t really matter if someone’s Indian or if someone’s Pakistani – working together is for the greater cause of a sense of prosperity for both industries to flourish together in greater harmony and tranquility.
Sridevi was also dispirited that both Sajal Aly and Adnan Siddiqui couldn’t come to India to collectively promote and celebrate ‘Mom’ in an incredibly heartbreaking video the Bollywood
She was incredibly saddened to hear of Sridevi’s passing. She was incredibly close to the Bollywood actress, often calling her mother out of fondness
Sajal couldn’t attend the funeral because of visa issues and was rightfully livid about it. It came a year after Sajal’s own mother passed away, and the actress revealed how Sridevi was there for her when news reached that her own mother had become gravely ill (Sajal was shooting for ‘Mom’ at the time of her mother’s final days).
Sridevi’s own daughters Janhvi and Khushi would often call Sajal at the time of her mother’s passing, and Sajal was dejected that she could not reciprocate
