The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has banned Aamir Liaquat from appearing on Television till further notice. A petition was filed by Muhammad Abbas on December 7.
In the petition, it was demanded that Aamir Liaquat be banned for his use of hate speech and inciting people for violent behavior on both, electronic and social media
Abbas also pointed out, in his petition, that Aamir Liaquat poses as a religious scholar. He claims to have knowledge of the religion and appeared on “Aalim Online” in 2006 to help people with their religious queries. However, it was soon revealed that he has no degree or certification in Islamic Studies.
It was also pointed out that Aamir appeared in several game shows, talk shows, morning shows and special transmissions. He used that space to accuse so many people by using the religion card.
“On many occasions, Aamir Liaquat used Quranic verses against certain individuals to show how a blasphemer should be punished. He went to the extent of endangering the lives of these individuals without any fear of Allah (SWT) that he is using Islam to his own gain and advantages. Many people have been disgusted and disturbed at his misuse of religion for personal gains”, Abbas told the court.
“While conducting a show on MQM leader, Altaf Hussain and other members of the party, Aamir Liaquat used highly objectionable language and went as far as to accuse the party leaders of having illicit relationship with party workers. He took names of several women and accused them of involvement in inappropriate acts. He also alleged that a woman worker had to get an abortion from hospital in London. According to the petitioner, Hussain also referred to the party leader, Atlaf Hussain with degrading names and ridiculing him and made several allegations.”
Abbas was of the opinion that a noble profession such as journalism is being destroyed because of the indecent acts of Aamir Liaquat, which is why he should be banned.
He said that Aamir was violating the code of conduct 2015 and PEMRA Ordinance 2002 and PEMRA chief was taking no action against it.
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui is hearing the case and has banned Aamir Liaquat from making any television appearance till any further notice. The federal government, PEMRA and Aamir Liaquat have been asked to file their responses and the case has been adjourned till January 10.
