9 Facts You Need to Know About Mangoes

One of the best things about Pakistan during the summer is the quality of mangoes in the country. We here love this fruit so much that we named ourselves MangoBaaz! The cultivation of mangoes took place 5,000 years ago and has now become a very strong part of Pakistani culture. So here’s a few interesting facts that you might not have known about this delicious fruit.

 

1. Alphonso is the highest selling type of mango globally.

2. Mango trees can bear fruits for 300 years and grow as tall as 100 feet.

We won’t be surprised if you ate a mango from the same tree as Bahadur Shah Zafar, Bhagat Singh or Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

3. Apart from Pakistan, mangoes are also the national fruit of Philippines and India.

Additionally, the mango tree is the national tree of Bangladesh.

4. Mangoes are very healthy and nutritious.

A mango provides 100% of your daily vitamin C, 35% fo your daily vitamin A and 12% of your daily fiber. Each mango has about 100 calories.

5. A green mango is high in vitamin C content – as the fruit ripens, the amount a vitamin A increases.

6. The leaves of a mango tree are considered toxic for livestock as they can kill cattle.

7. Pakistan is the fourth largest producer of mangoes in the world.

The first place is secured by India, while China and Mexico fight for the second and third spot.
