Urmila Matondkar Apparently Just Called Hinduism A Violent Religion And Indians Are Losing It

By Iman Zia | 9 Apr, 2019

A complaint has been lodged against actress-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar by Modi’s ‘Bharatiya Janata Party’ (BJP) for allegedly making anti-Hindu remarks. The Bollywood star recently joined Congress as a candidate and will be contesting against BJP leader Gopal Shetty who is the sitting MP.

Urmila is married to Muslim Moshin Akhtar, and recently divulged her questions regarding peoples’ rights under Modi’s tight-lipped institution – hence her entering the realm of Indian politics.

Urmila recently came under fire after a BJP worker filed a complaint against her after a news interview of the actress surfaced showed her allegedly claiming that Hinduism is the most violent religion in the world.

The actress brushed the allegations as “bogus, baseless and filled with ulterior motives,” according to NDTV.

Urmila asserted that she had been “grossly misquoted by the complaint, who is a BJP member with mala fide intentions.” She said that in the interview originally quotes, she dismissed a “fake, divisive and violent ideology” that was being sold by the rightwing party “in the name of Hinduism.” She said this was misleading Indians and was “bring[ing] disrepute to the great religion.”

The actress said that “Hinduism is an epitome of peace, inclusiveness, and non-violence” and believes in a different kind of Hinduism the BJP promote.

Indians, however, have already denounced Urmila’s comments.
