PEMRA Thought Udaari Is “Immoral” For Talking About Child Abuse And Pakistanis Responded

By Sarmad Amer | 14 May, 2016

So, the one television drama on Pakistani TVs that is actually trying to highlight a social issue that plagues us is Udaari. The show talks about child sexual abuse and how it affects children. It also discusses issues like the treatment of arts and culture in Pakistan and the role of women in our society.

For more on what we think about Udaari, click here.

PEMRA, the television regulatory body, issued a notice to the channel broadcasting ‘Udaari’ for the immoral content of the television series.

It is a sad state of affairs when a TV show that tries to tackle ills of society is called immoral by the state authorities while politicians abusing, cussing and swearing on national television is not deemed inappropriate.

Here’s what people think about the notice against Udaari

1. Like one of the makers behind the show

2. And one of Pakistan’s biggest TV stars

And I support UDAARI…!! #humtv #supportudaari #isupportthisserial #welldoneteamudaari #mayaali ??

3. People are annoyed at the action

4. And they are speaking up in support of Udaari

5. People are appreciating that Udaari talks about actual issues instead of the soap opera fluff in other TV shows

6. There are those who want there to be actual understanding about the issue, in our society

7. And then there are those who don’t appreciate clamping down on freedom of expression

A fundamental right of every citizen of Pakistan that is constitutionally protected, by the way.

8. The problem of child abuse is an ever growing cause for concern

9. Not dealing with these problems is exactly what is letting them bubble and then turn into mammoth problems for our nation

10. Someone even brought up Hamza Ali Abbasi

Baat toh sahi hai, waise.

11. People even appreciated the people behind Udaari for responding to PEMRA’s notice to start a debate

12. Even mommies are in support of the TV show

13. And this person just summed the whole problem up beautifully

Dear PEMRA, hope you reconsider your decisions and rethink your priorities, we need Pakistan to become Ayesha Sana jaisa bright again, and to that we want your priorities sorted. Thank you.
