Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed went viral over the fact that he wore shalwar kameez to meet the Queen of England.

Though many people appreciated the fact that Ahmed wore the Pakistani traditional dress to Buckingham Palace, others called him out for wearing ‘pyjamas’ to meet the Queen.
The hate was pretty ridiculous but was soon outrun (see what I did there?) by the heaps of love and appreciation Ahmed received for deciding to wear his shalwar kameez. And recently…
While speaking to the press, Sarfaraz responded to all the hate and his answer was pitch perfect.
(Pitch? Get it? Cricket?)

Ahmed said that he was happy with his decision to wear shalwar kameez, proud to represent Pakistan and honoured to meet the Queen. Beautiful. His response was simple, kind and to the point! He said that while all the other captains were wearing suits, he felt proud to be the only one in his national dress.
Proud of you captain 😍😍😍☺

Yeah, it was good to see Sarfaraz wearing traditional kurta.

Oh, and friends, that’s not all.
Sarfaraz revealed that he got a chance to speak to Prince Harry, as well.

Like, freaking out.
Prince Harry accompanied the Queen while meeting all the captains and Ahmed said that at one point, the Prince asked Sarfaraz which position he played to which he said wicketkeeper and batsman. Prince Harry then said that he would like to bowl to him someday. How GREAT is that?
Proud moment… Best of luck team Pakistan. #WeHaveWeWill

It was good to see how Ahmed handled the situation from start to finish and standing tall and confident in his decision rather than making a scene or fighting back the hate. It was a great example for all of us to see and vote of faith in his ability to keep his calm throughout the tournament.
I can’t imagine what was going through Sarfaraz’s head at the time but looking at the footage, our Captain handled it well. Now that the first match has been played, it seems as though the game is really just about to begin. All we can do is sit back, relax and wish our boys in green the best of luck and a chance for that cup to come home.
Have you seen the response Sarfaraz gave? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below! Love you.
