Iman Ali is one of Pakistan’s most successful models, and one of the nation’s most recognizable faces. She’s been in some of the most iconic fashion shows as well as ads. There was a point where she was the national crush! While the model/ actor soared in her career, she had to deal with having a chronic illness- multiple sclerosis (MS, for short).

What exactly is MS? 

It is a chronic illness where your immunity system attacks your central nervous system. What this basically does is disrupt the flow of information between your brain and your body. If left untreated, MS can be life-threatening.

It was back in 2009 that the model revealed that she had been diagnosed with MS.

Since then, Iman Ali has traveled to India for treatment. She’s openly talked about how there is little to no awareness about MS in Pakistan and little to no opportunities for treatment.  Iman Ali has silently dealt with the disease for so many years; she’s a very private person and that extends to her health and wellness too.

Early this morning, she put up a picture on her Instagram in honor of ‘World MS Day’. 

She didn’t put up a selfie, rather she put up a ‘blurfie’. Iman Ali talks about living with MS and how it has changed her life completely. She says that her speech and movement have been affected by this. She also talks about how one’s vision gets blurred when they have MS, and sometimes this blurred vision is accompanied by dizziness.

This blurred selfie (‘blurfie’) she posted is just a way to show people how this blurred vision looks like.

People started sharing their personal experiences with MS. 

Her fans were in awe of her.

She was called brave, and also called an ‘inspiration’. 

She was getting love all the way from Canada.

This campaign is being led by a Pakistani organization called ‘Lets Beat MS’, that aims to raise awareness around the illness across Pakistan, as well as be a support system for people who do have MS in Pakistan.
