The excitement is here as the ICC World Cup officially kicks off in England today.
Cricket fans all over the world have been ready for this set of matches and of course, Pakistanis are ready to bring home the cup. Of course, that all depends on the team, who depends on the Captain. And it seems as though our Captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed, has found himself in some hot water regarding his meeting with the Queen of England. Lol, never thought I’d be writing that sentence ever.
Sarfaraz Ahmed is being criticized for the outfit he wore while meeting the Queen of England in Buckingham Palace.
Captains of #Cricket playing nations competing 4 the #CricketWorldCup had a photoshoot with the Queen. Guess who came dressed in his pyjamas? None other than the #Pakistan captain (back row, left). Take a look at him in the other pic. How does one country produce …? #CricketWC pic.twitter.com/hXxbxrfzlj

The Captains of each participating team were invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen before starting any official matches. And instead of celebrating the fact that one of our men was in the same room as the Royal Family, people on Twitter had other plans.

Honestly, come ON.
People on social media have been commenting on Ahmed’s appearance and are embarrassed that he wore ‘pyjamas’ to meet the Queen.
Every other captain, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, SouthAfrica, NewZealand, West Indies & Zimbabwe is smartly turned out in jacket & tie, but no, not the Pakistani. No sir, not him. I’m surprised he didn’t come in his Lungi-Banyan-Topi costume. How does …?

Seriously? This is what we’ve come to?
However, for the most part, people have been stepping in to defend Sarfaraz and his choice to wear shalwar kameez in the first place.

The fact that he chose to stand by the Queen while wearing our traditional dress is not only super sweet but a really strong gesture in showing our country’s pride, confidence and patriotism among the other teams at the cup.
I differ on this. what is the harm if someone dresses in his own country's dress. why it is essential to wear suit in England? If that be so, will every foreigner visiting PM Modi, should essentially wear kurta paizama? and alternately should all ladies wear skirt in England?

Lol, jk,
Honestly, when it comes to something like the International Cricket Cup, the last of everyone’s worries should be an outfit. Captain Sarfaraz has shown his capabilities as a leader before and though everyone may not agree with his style choices, we should all be able to say with confidence that Sarfaraz and our boys in green wear their best looks on the cricket pitch.
This is a cricket match for crying out loud not a red carpet. Yes, appearances are important and yes, it is one hundred percent okay to make sure that Pakistan is represented in the best possible light, I hear you. But it also takes a lot to stand up and be different and doing that in front of the Queen? In the name of Pakistan? This is the Captain we need, people, the Captain that’s gonna win that cup for us.
Have you seen the pictures of Sarfaraz at the palace? What did you think of his look? Let us know what you think in the comments below. Love you!
