These Are The Hottest Pakistani Fashion Trends of 2016

By Warda Baig | 5 Jun, 2016

The niche of insta-fashion in Pakistan is still pretty minuscule which is why we still have to resort to outrageously priced designer lawns, fashion catalogs, TVCs or just some lookin’ around to find out what’s trending and what’s not.

Taking our game a notch higher and to make your life easier, we made use of Big Data. That is, we collected a BIG amount of DATA on Pakistani Fashion for 2016 and sorted out the most doable and practical trends for our desi galz out there. We are going to skip the crazier ones *cough rainbrows cough* for now and present to you the hottest fashion trends for your Eid shopping, this year.

Note: MOST, if not all, the things we’re showcasing are local products, hence very easily available.

Metallic sandals

We were surprised by how easy it was to find SO MANY of these on multiple shoe stores. This is a fashion trend that has caught up faster than any other, this side of the globe. That’s possibly because the design is so simple, heck even I can stitch up a pair. Having said that, metal toned strappy sandal flats never fail to look glam AF.

Nothing else screams casual chic like a pair of these

Lace-up flats

Lace-up pumps are all the rage this season and our recommended colors are black and beige. You can obviously go for whichever color you want BUT these two shades would go with EVERYTHING.

Hand-painted khussay

This one is a beautifully desi trend, ranging from hand-painted truck art inspired kohlapuris to intricately embellished traditional khussas. To put it simply, truck art khussas are Valentino Rockstuds on a budget.

Holographic everything

Be it metallic crossover sandals or your eyelids, holographic tones are trending all over. And for all the right reasons. It makes you look like a diva so why not?

Tasseled bags

Tassels have made a huge comeback and we couldn’t be happier. If you’re the hobo chic kind, there can be no better friend than a nice little tassel. We’ve seen them on our kamiz daamans, suede pumps, earrings, handbags, you name it. Inspired by the gypsy-life, they make your whole look a little loosened up, so you definitely don’t want to carry a tasseled bag on your best friend’s wedding. But if you’re looking to ward off rishta aunties, be my guest.

“Quirky” clutches

This is the scribe’s personal favorite fashion trend ATM because it lets your inner girl out. Remember eyeing all those glitter-covered goodies and colorful mini purses but not being brave enough to actually carry them because…ADULTHOOD? Well that’s a thing of the past. We can finally carry birdcages and cupcake shaped bags without the fear of being judged. Not that we care about judgment, but still.

Organza wraps

Remember looking at you mother’s “tissue” and organza dupattas from days of yore and wondering why would anyone wear a cardboard as a dress? Well guess what, the gauze-like akrra hua fabric is back with a bang. If you even remotely follow fashion trends you’d know that the world has moved on from chiffon to organza. They don’t say fashion repeats itself every 50 years for nothing.

Belted lawn

This doesn’t apply if you haven’t bought an overpriced designer lawn jorra. Replicas would do, though.

On a serious note, belts are trying to crawl back into the scene not only on lawn jorras but also over lehnga cholis.

This one is not for the faint-hearted. You either love it or hate it. There’s no middle way. You either like your legs wrapped up in burritos or you don’t.

The cape

You’ve seen it on the red carpet as well as the mehndi dance floor at your best friend’s wedding. THEY’RE LITERALLY EVERYWHERE. And can we blame them? Anything that makes you feel like a superhero (or heroine) is a win.

Flared pants

Remember the last time you wore flapper pants? Yeah…that was a LONG time back, kid you not. If you have a curvy body, they probably won’t be your best friend but for them skinny gals out there, if you still haven’t gotten your darzi to stitch a dozen of these in white, we don’t even know what you’re doing with your life.

Pointy shoes

Heels or flats, if they’re not razor-sharp pointed at the front, they belong in the trash-can.

High-low flared tops

Please don’t confuse them with those long chiffon gowns with flowing tails. Don’t disgrace them by stitching them in Chiffon or Georgette and spraying them with sitaray, more commonly known as “sitaron ka chhatta”. They’re supposed to be knee-length and belted at the waist. Ideally paired with bell-bottoms.

Belly button

Flaunt this baby this shaadi season. Saaris belong to your neighbors. Wear a crop top, pair it with a lehnga and let your stomach BREATHE.
