Recently, an Indian couple named their newly-born twins ‘Corona’ and ‘Covid.’ I didn’t think that’s a sentence I’d ever be typing, but here we are.

The couple lives in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. The mother of the kids, Preeti Verma gave birth to the babies in the early hours of 27th March 2020. While answering a question about why the kids were named after the virus, the parents said that these names were chosen to symbolize triumph over hardship. They revealed that the hospital staff started calling the babies with these names which gave them the idea to name the newly-born twins after the virus.

While in conversation with a news channel, Preeti Verma said, “Indeed the virus is dangerous and life-threatening but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene and inculcate other good habits. Thus, we thought about these names.” She also said that their decision regarding the names can be changed later and they might rename the kids.

As soon as the news was shared on social media, people were surprised and shocked to know that the parents actually named their kids after a pandemic

They couldn’t figure out the reason behind the parents’ choice and argued if those individuals realized that the virus has resulted in chaos

The image circulating on social media platforms is different than the one shared by the sources so we are not really sure if the one shared on social media is an authentic one.
