It seems as if harassment of all sorts and natures is becoming a norm in Pakistan. Although we are aware that this is nothing new, sadly, a vast majority of us, especially as women, have been harassed one way or the other. On the brighter side, women are playing it smart and using social media to raise their voice against the vile and disgusting behaviors of the perpetrators who feel it is their birthright to harass a woman, “Kyun ke hum mard hain.”
Among the women speaking up about harassment, is our own award-winning model and businesswoman – Amna Babar.
Amna took to Instagram about a scary experience she had on the way to pick up her mother after running some errands. According to her Instagram post, Amna was out and about taking care of errands and picking up her mom in a safe and secure housing society in Lahore, when she had to make a pit stop at the mall located within the society.
In the post itself, Amna states that she’s ‘very disturbed and upset after what just took place.’ Here’s her narration of the incident:
“I was driving home after running some errands to pick up my mom and these boys started making obscene faces, started swearing at me and kept calling me names. I was alone, got scared as no one even tried to help me and went to pick up my mother and took her to the mall. There I saw them again I took pictures of them and one of them showed me the middle finger and called me a badmash. My mother got upset too and she took off one of her shoes. These boys were then told by other people to run away.”
Amna revealed to MangoBaaz the scary incidents that took place and how she handled things.
Amna was in her car when she noticed a couple of young men making obscene faces and hailing swear words at her and her mother. Like a true lioness, she decided to follow these men and make sure they apologize for the gestures and words they were using.
After a few blocks, these men decided to stop in front of Amna’s car and started to advance towards her and her mother. This is when she rolled up her windows and decided the fight wasn’t worth it as none of the bystanders supported her and she, in fact, was alone in the car with her mother.
She then continued to tell us that she proceeded to the mall with her mother.
These men followed her till outside the mall all the while swearing at her and making indecent gestures. This is when Amna decided to retaliate and told them that she will take this up with the media and police.
Though some of the culprits of this below the belt stunt ran away, Amna caught hold of a couple of them and managed to take pictures before they escaped.
However, new updates shared by the model reveal that the harasser has apologized.
Captioned, “Power of social media!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻” Amna goes on to talk about how the boy “apologized profusely, after being called out.”
Kudos to Amna for standing up for herself and demanding her due right for an apology – and actually getting it too. More power to you Amna. Shine on!
