Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh faced weird backlash for supporting Shahid Afridi Foundation during coronavirus crisis

In the wake of Covid-19 or as it’s popularly referred to as the ‘Coronavirus’ a lot of celebrities have been making appeals to people to make donations to causes that are helping people who have been impacted by the virus the most.

Indian cricketing legends Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh shared their support for Shahid Afridi Foundation in fighting against coronavirus

Yuvraj made an appeal to his followers on Twitter to support several causes. He talked about how in wake of this situation, governments and people around the world were rallying together to make sure. He particularly highlighted Shahid Afridi’s foundation that is doing great work in Pakistan. He encouraged his followers to donate to causes and talked about how he was supporting certain causes too, one of which was Shahid Afridi’s in Pakistan. He talked about how the causes was making sure people didn’t go to sleep hungry and working with those in remote areas as well.

He was nominated by Harbhajan Singh to talk about donating. Harbhajan also gained a lot of flack for his video appreciating the Shahid Afridi Foundation and encouraging people to donate to it.

However, the message of peace and unity by Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh supporting Shahid Afridi Foundation got Indians triggered for some weird reason

The cricketers were trying to share support with a friend of theirs because this crisis is something the whole world is fighting eith but Indians were not happy with Yuvraj supporting a Pakistani initiative. Especially one by Shahid Afridi.

People were convinced that the cricketers were being paid by Pakistan to promote a Pakistani charity

In fact, it is also possible that the tweet by Yuvraj was reported several times as it had been marked by the platform as ‘sensitive content’. That is incredibly sad, honestly. The man was only asking people to donate generously to different charities working in the wake of Covid-19… that’s all!

Some Indians even went as far as calling Shahid Afridi’s charity a terrorist organization

Indians were incredibly upset with Yuvraj.

Yuvraj Singh ended up giving a statement on how he did not understand why people were upset

He reinstated that he was an Indian and that he loved his country and shared that all he did was highlight an organization in another country that was doing its part during these tough times.

Harbhajan also shared that people should spread love and not hate, especially during these times

It’s incredibly sad to see that even in a global pandemic where countries are united to fight the common problem prevailing, some can simply not put their differences aside. Yuvraj and Harbhajan Singh did a very respectable thing – asking people to donate to charities around the world since everyone was hurting in these trying times but his message being so misconstrued and even having him become the target of hate is sad to see.

What do you think of Yuvraj and Harbhajan’s support to Shahid Afridi’s charity? Let us know in the comments below.
