Asif Khan is covering a building in Vantablack for the 2018 Olympics in South Korea. HOW. COOL. IS. THAT.

Born in London in 1979, Khan is of Pakistani and Tanzanian descent. He studied at University College London and the Architectural Association, winning prizes at both, before setting up his own practice in 2007.

His studio has been exceptionally successful and he has worked internationally on many projects including exhibitions, pavilions, cultural buildings, and installations.

Khan’s latest project is to make a colorless building for the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.

“When people look at the building they will see a schism in space. It will be like you are looking into the night sky. In fact, we’re creating a star field within this blackness, so it will look like the Milky Way but you’ll be seeing it in broad daylight” he told CNN.

The building will be made using Vantablack, the darkest material ever made by man.

Vantablack absorbs virtually all light and is almost the complete absence of color – the closest thing to a black hole that we can experience. It was first created by Surrey NanoSystems and artists, designers, and engineers all over the world are desperate to get their hands on it.

Ounce for ounce, Vantablack is more expensive than both diamonds and gold.

Khan is using a spray-on version called Vantablack VBx2 to create his “schism in space” building that will have four curved walls, but from afar will appear as just blackness.
