These Turkish dramas are the perfect introduction for a newbie
While we have all whiled away our nights and days watching Pakistani dramas on repeat and finishing entire series overnight, sometimes, there is a lag and every drama starts looking, feeling and sounding like all the others. And there are also some times when you just want to watch something else. Something that doesn’t follow a similar theme, something that allows you an insight into a different culture altogether. And that is where Turkish dramas comes in. They came in and swept everyone off of their feet with the quality and the storylines and the beautiful settings and locations that the shows were shot in. And there was also Behlul. Sub ke diloun ki dharkan.
So here are just some Turkish dramas that you really need to start watching this very second:
1. For the very first taste of the lavish Turkish dramas, let’s jump straight into “Ishq e Mamnoon”
The story of a much older man falling in love with the daughter of the woman who fancies him, “Ishq e Mamnoon” takes us on a journey of forbidden love and relationships.
2. Another one of Turkish dramas to watch if you’re just getting started on them is “Fatima Gul”
“Fatima Gul” was a heartbreaking tale of those who use their power to get their way around, and how that toys with real people and affects their lives.
The Turkish adaptation of the ABC TV show “Revenge”, “Intikaam” follows the life of Yağmur Özden, who seeks to avenge her father’s imprisonment for a crime he didn’t commit, and his untimely death in prison. She is set to get back at everyone who had done her father wrong.
4. “Aik Pyaar Kahaani”
How a small time conman, in Australia struggles to make ends meet, falls in love, and finds his birth mother, in Korea. Only to find out that she is a very famous artist and was extremely well off. A tale of love, sacrifice, heartbreak and selflessness, “Aik Pyaar Kahaani” is a heartbreaker.
5. “20 Minute” offers a change of pace from the earlier recommendations of mostly love story based Turkish dramas
The perfect family gets disrupted after the mother is arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Her husband tries everything he can in his power to clear her name.
This heartbreaking tale of a woman trying to fit into a culture where status is everything, falling in love and then dying for the one she loves, is quite an emotional roller coaster.
The show revolves around the families of Asi and Demir, and how they try to figure out the intricacies of life.
The story of how a young woman’s life is completely turned around upon meeting a man at a hair salon.
“Sheharzaad” revolves around how a mother is willing to go to any and all lengths to protect and take care of her child.
10. “Elif” is among the Turkish dramas that offer a different story to the usual historical epics or love stories
The heartbreaking story of a child’s separation with her mother.
11. “Fareb – Ek Haseen Dhoka”
The classic love triangle is at play in this show. A girl who has lost everything doesn’t know that she might have a shot at a normal life with a family she had no idea about. However, when she moves in with her cousins, that is when love and infatuation begin to brew.
The show follows the life of a simple young woman who marries into a rich family.
13. “Wadi e Ishq”
The journey that “Wadi e Ishq” takes its viewers on is a highly interesting one. From finding love, to losing it, and then finding love in the strangest places. From losing love one more time, it shows the life of a woman who finds her own standing in life and becomes a strong independent woman.
While we’re very weary of all the guns in Turkish dramas, this one also revolves around near misses and losses in love.
15.“Kala Paisa Pyaar” is one of those Turkish dramas that offers a very surprisingly unique perspective on “love stories”
Playing off of the Stockholm Syndrome, the show thrillingly revolves around mystery and robberies and finding out the truth. It’s surely guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seats.
The story of how a family is torn apart after their father is wrongly convicted of murder and his son tries everything in his power to clear his name.
This one’s actually quite an adorable story of how a girl falls in love with her best friend’s brother only to realize that he doesn’t love her back. And she eventually finds love elsewhere, in a really cute way.
18. The final recommendation in this list of Turkish dramas for a newbie is “Manahil aur Khalil”
A heartbreaking tale of how two people in love are just not allowed to be together and have to go through hell and back in order to keep their love alive, and still face heartbreaks every step of the way.
