Smriti Irani beat Rahul Gandhi in the Indian General Elections
‘Kyunke Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ was one of the greatest hits while we were growing up. The storyline was totally bonkers and unrealistic, but there was something about the show that made audiences stick. One of the main characters was Tulsi, the main bahu of the household. After the show ended, the Tulsi actor, Smriti Irani took to politics and had some major success.
In 2014, under Modi’s government, Smriti Irani was appointed the Minister for Human Resource.
Later, among scandal, she was sifted to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
This year, Smriti Irani ran against Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Indian Congress Party, on his family seat in Amethi.
Amethi is to the Gandhis what Raiwind is to the Sharifs. A sure shot win on election day, given how loyal the people of the area, so it seemed unlikely that Smriti would take the lead.
Just imagine if TULSI BHABHI defeats RAHUL GANDHI in Indian elections. The embarrassment will be too strong for Papoo.

Last night when the election results came through, it left everyone in shock.
Rahul Gandhi had lost Amethi to Smriti. Smriti leads by 49% of the votes cast and took the Gandhi’s home seat from them.
A big upset for Congress party, Rahul gandhi lost his home seat of Amethi and he was defeated by Smriti Irani (Tulsi) actress of indian drama 'Saas Bhi kbhi bahu thi' and BJP wins with a massive majority yet again Narendra Modi will be PM of India.#ElectionResults2019 pic.twitter.com/ibKHWv4YoF

The jokes were on point.

But some people were here for the news!
Hey Tulsi, good job honey! @smritiirani

While the news itself is funny when you think of it in terms of the show, however, Smriti clearly has a massive political career and this wasn’t her first election. On paper, it makes sense for her to win! We may disagree with her party and their politics but this is a big win for her, she has managed to topple a whole political family on their stomping grounds.
