Ramazan is a pretty social month. Har doosre din daawat, its pretty exhausting actually.
While the people and the menu might change, the things that happens in these dawats is always the same.
1. Before you even go to your daawat the struggle to pick out the right outfit is unreal
2. Gift choice for your hosts vary from dates to chocolates
Like always.
3. You’ll keep dates and paani before you leave for the daawat just in case you get stuck in the traffic jam
You know, just in case you get late.
4. The awkward ‘hello hi’ before Maghrib ki azaan
5. That one Uncle who’s determined on making everyone break their fact before time
‘Haan haan mujhe azaan ki awaaz aa rahi hai’
*utter silence*
6. The scurry for khajoor will happen
No, not those dates.
7. You’ll be nice and let others take dates before you, and before you know its been some 10 minutes since roza khul gaya
8. Maghrib Jamaat and the politics of space will be a bit*h
Is everyone in jammat and standing in a straight line. Ikamah kon de ga, namaz kon parhaye ga!
9. Somehow the pakoras finish way too quickly
10. While praying, all you can think about is the iftaar ka khana jo bach gaya hai
And what you’ll indulge in after namaaz.
11. You stuff yourself at iftaar and literally cannot move
12. But guess who’s leading the line as soon as dinner is served
13. You will drop some chana chaat/fruit chaat/chutney on your clothes
Every damn time!
14. Everyone will want green tea just to be able to move after food
15. When you all are about to leave, someone else will call you over to their place for iftaari and the cycle continues.
Why god why?
Iftaar daawats are great, aren’t they? Let us know if we’ve missed anything out in the comments 🙂
