13 Spiritual Sites That Are a Must Visit For Everyone in Pakistan

Who doesn’t like a good travel destination? Even if you aren’t a big fan of travelling (although if you aren’t a fan of travelling, you are REALLY crazy, dude) you are sure to love a nice, calm, relaxing place to get you out of the hustle and bustle of your busy life. These spiritual places in Pakistan are the best destinations not only to pay a haazri but also for cleansing your mind, body and soul.

 

1. Shah Rukn e Alam Darbar, Multan

Multan is the city of mausoleums and this tomb is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful ones. But there is more to this place than just beauty for your eyes, it is a spiritual hub as the burial site for Sufi saint Sheikh Rukn-ud-Din Abul Fateh.

2. Baba Farid Ganj Shakar’s Shrine, Pakpattan

It is said that the best time to visit this place is during the urs of Fariduddin Ganjshakkar, the sufi saint, in whose name the shrine is. It is celebrated by thousands of people every year for the first six days of Muharram and you get the chance to be blessed by crossing through the legendary bahishti darwaza that is opened only for a few days during the festivities.

3. Gurdwara Panja Sahib, Hasan Abdal

One of the holiest places for Sikhism, it is believed that this place is home to the rock that has the hand print of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. Thousands of Sikhs gather here from all over the world, especially India, during their annual pilgrimage to visit Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak, near Faislabad.

4. Tomb of Shah Jamal, Lahore

Thursday nights are especially powerful because of the grand congregations. This place reverberates with spiritual passion with the dhol beats of goonga and mithu saeein.

5. Katas Raj Temples, Chakwal

These temples are a historic site. However, anyone looking to be enthralled by the architecture and serenity of this place must visit.

6. Abdullah Shah Ghazi Mausoleum, Karachi

Located atop a hill that is overlooking Karachi’s Clifton beach, this mausoleum is not only a spiritual destination you simply have to visit but is also great for a lazy Saturday visit that you can end by enjoying the sunset at the beach.

7. Sultan Bahu Shrine, Jhang

The Sufi mystic, poet and scholar’s shrine is a popular place for visitors from all parts of the country. The annual urs is particularly a time of grand celebrations and attracts a large number of devotees.

8. Sakhi Sarwar’s Tomb, Dera Ghazi Khan

Built for Syed Ahmed Sultan, a 12th century Sufi saint, this tomb is located in the Sulaiman Mountains in Dera Ghazi Khan district. The place offers majestic views of the dusty mountains and the lower Punjab plains, beyond.

9. Takht-i-Bahi Monastery, Mardan

This is an ancient Buddhist monastery located atop a cliff that is surrounded by some of the most beautiful views in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It started off as a Zoroastrian complex but was later converted to a Buddhist monastery after the arrival of Buddhism in the region. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must visit place if you’re looking for some place to soothe your eyes and brain.

10. Gori Temple, Tharparkar

Dedicated to the Jain God Prasanth, Gori temple lies outside of the village of Gori between Islamkot and Nagarparkar. The various legends point to its foundations by a rich Hindu merchant six hundreds years ago. The statue of Prasanth that was in the temple until 1716 is believed to have had a large diamond between his eyes.

11. Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, Nankana Sahib

Located in its namesake city, this Gurdwara is built on the site that is believed to be the birthplace of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak. It is the holiest site for the Sikh community and every year thousands of Sikh people make pilgrimage to the place.

12. Data Darbar, Lahore

Possibly the most well known of the spiritual sites and mausoleums in Pakistan, Data Durbar is the burial site for Abul Hassan Ali Hajvery or Data Gunj Buksh and a place for millions of devotees who visit the place every single day to pay their respects, pray or just bathe in the enchanting spirituality of this place.

13. Bibi Pak Daman, Lahore

The shrine to Ruqayyah bint Ali, the daughter of Hazrat Ali and granddaughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Legend has it that there are graves of six ladies from the house of the Prophet and these are the ladies who arrived in the region after the battle of Karbala. It is even said that the Data Gunj Buksh was a devotee of Bibi Pak Daman.
