A musician has the power to motivate, to empower, to give momentum, and to energize and good music definitely has lasting positive effects. Keeping up with the tradition of highlighting local talent, today we’re gonna be looking at another rising star – Sameer Baig.
Sameer is currently a student at SZABIST and has a passion for music. In fact, he’s also an Audio Engineer at Coke Studio.
We had a little chat with the dude and got to know a lot of cool stuff! When we asked him what got him into music in the first place, he said:
“I didn’t know about music in my childhood but it used to fascinate me at that time. I used to listen to random bands which made me interested in music. And then once I heard Coke Studio’s Jugni Ji due to which I started following Coke Studio and my interest in music gradually developed.”
So, he started off just like any of us. Maybe I can sing too…lol hell no. My voice can scare the life out of a scarecrow…and that dude is already dead.
He credits his family for supporting and helping further his music career. Moreover, he has some interesting upcoming projects. Here’s what he shared with us:
“My family didn’t say anything about the music. In fact, they supported me. Especially my mom. She was the one who supported me. And I do have a few things in the pipeline. One of my personal favorite compositions is “Aaj Rang Hai” and it’s composed by Hazrat Amir Khusro. I have made a different rendition of it and, most probably when it’s done, I hope people are gonna like it.”
I don’t know about you but I, sure as hell, am pumped up for it!
Now, as a student myself, I’ve always wondered how talented people like him managed to keep their shit together? Lucky for me, Sameer helped me out by telling me how he manages his studies and music together:
“Where there is a will, there is a way. It’s hard to cope up with studies but still, I am trying my best. I have to take out time for the studies because studies come first.”
Now, Sameer is a very cool guy. But he isn’t the only one in the family with the star genes. His sister, Natasha Baig, is a singer and these two perform together as a band. HOW COOL IS THAT?!
These two started off with their first ever performance together back in 2016 and Sameer said that the crowd loved it! They’ve been performing together ever since. I asked him about his future plans with Natasha and this is what he had to say:
“Well, there are a lot of things I have planned with Natasha. We both are working on almost 5-6 tracks with different genres. And we have also planned some collaborations.”
We also got to talking about how he got here and stumbled upon an interesting question; if you could, what would you tell your younger self? Here’s what he had to say:
“Music requires a lot of time and dedication. In fact, everything in this world requires time. But in music, I guess, practice is the most essential part and in the beginning, I never practiced properly. So yeah, if I’d known that music requires a lot of time and practice, I guess I would have given it more time than I did.”
For all of those who are reading this and are aspiring musicians themselves, we didn’t forget about you guys. Here’s a message from Sameer to all of you guys:
“What I have learned from time to time is that if a person is interested in music and wants to be a musician then he or she should listen to every genre of music and one of the most important things is practice. The more you practice, the more you’ll learn and then apply. Always try something new with your instrument.”
You guys heard the man; practice makes perfect!
Diving head-first into his passion for music, Sameer is really bringing out his inner star. Young musicians like him are pushing this industry into a phase of much-needed innovation. What do you think of him? Let me know in the comments!
