And it had us EMOTIONAL.

The author was on the show as part of a press tour for her new book, ‘The Sun and Her Flowers,’ but started the conversation around her first book, ‘Milk and Honey,’ and how it grew to be such a global phenomenon.

She revealed that she started drawing when she was five years old, Kaur had just moved to Canada from Punjab and didn’t know any English.

Thus, at a young age, she started expressing herself through her drawings.

As she got older, she began attending open mics, and readings and would constantly be approached by her fans, asking her where they could buy her book.

And just by the way, not sure if any of you knew this because I didn’t, but Kaur SELF-PUBLISHED her first book.

Matlab, every publisher she approached with her work, rejected her immediately. As a design student in college, instead of studying for finals, Rupi took all her time and energy making her OWN book and illustrations, editing and publishing all on her own.
