And pressure too kyun kay you want to impress your susraalis. Despite this pressure, many of our bahus are lucky enough to create special memories which stay with them for the entirety of their lives.

We got in touch with a few women and asked them about their favorite memory from their first Ramazan in their susraal.

70-year-old Qamar Jabeen recollected her first Ramazan after her marriage.

“When I got married, there was a tradition to send the newlywed brides to their parents home for their first Ramazan and Eid. I was also told the same. This made me feel really sad and I cried because I could not spend that time with my husband. In that era, women were not allowed to speak their minds. They were expected to do as instructed by their saas. With a heavy heart, I packed my bags and left for my parents home which was in a different city.”

“Here comes the memorable part. My husband sent me letters and cards one after the other telling me that he also missed me and the Eid card was the most special one. I still have those letters and cards with me which remind me of those beautiful days.”

“Before the first iftaari, I went into the kitchen to make something for my husband. However, he walked in on me practicing my poor cooking skills. He came in and asked the entire story. And guess what? He made me an iftaari for me. I just felt so special.”
