Nawazuddin Just Called “Sacred Games” Season Two The “Baap” Of The Show And WE ARE SCREAMING

By Iman Zia | 30 Jan, 2019

The second season of the commercially and critically acclaimed ‘Sacred Games’ is underway – despite some controversies around the first season, Netflix confirmed the second season a while ago with the vice president of International Originals at Netflix saying “we’ve been thrilled by the response to Sacred Games from fans worldwide, and especially in India, to this high-quality production.”

The second season will premier on Netflix on 15 August 2019 and the anticipation is real:

Saif Ali Khan was spotted shooting for the highly anticipated second season of ‘Sacred Games’ and it comes as a relief after word spread that the sequel wouldn’t even take place.

‘Sacred Games’ writer Varun Grover was accused of sexual harassment, and it looking incredibly grim for the Netflix show’s future. The writer took to Twitter to deny all allegations and Netflix responded that they were going to be “evaluating options for the path forward.”

In an interview with Indian publication with ‘Mid-day,’ Nawazuddin Siddiqui said that there is a LOT to be expected from his character Ganesh Gaitonde.

The actor has “left no stone unturned to absorb the nuances of” his on-screen parallel. Ganesh Gaitonde has become an international pop culture phenomenon, and Nawazuddin said: “even if people know Ganesh Gaitonde, they won’t know what to expect from him.”

Nawazuddin said that the second season “will be the baap of the first one (and reading this I can’t help out a yelp in excitement).

The second season has been shot across Mombassa, Cape Town, and Johannesburg, and is slated to release mid-2019. The actor admitted to not realizing just how popular ‘Sacred Games’ was only until fans in Rome came up to him to take pictures; “I realized the impact of the show [then], and my team would show me the memes that were doing the rounds on the internet.”

Nawazuddin also talked about Anurag Kashyap, with whom he’s very close to on both a professional front and personally.

He said that all his collaborations with the director have been “worthwhile…when Anurag is working with me, he is constantly pushing me to break my own boundaries. It comes from familiarity and ability to go on a rollercoaster with him.” While Vikramaditya Motwane will no longer be co-directing (sigh) season two, the man behind the lauded film ‘Masaan’ will be taking his place. Neeraj Ghaywan will be joining Anurag as co-director for the second installment.
