More Than A Million People Have Signed A Petition Demanding A Game Of Thrones Remake With “Competent Writers”

By UA | 19 May, 2019

The show Game of Thrones really needs no introduction, and since the premiere of the final season, we have been hearing more and more from fans all over the world.

The most recent episode, The Bells, was the last one preceding the grand finale of the epic show and it left A LOT of people really disappointed

Although complaints have been prevalent since the very start of the season about how it is not meeting expectations, the last straw became Episode 5, in which viewers had to watch Daenerys (Emilia Clark) portray a TOTAL deviation from her storyline and incinerate King’s Landing along with tons of innocent civilians.

What’s more, is that even previous stars on the show came forth to express their disappointment.

Actor and longtime GoT star Conleth Hill, who played Lord Varys, stated that he was “bummed” with various aspects of the show and that the last couple of seasons on the show “weren’t his favorite”. Fans were also quite enraged by the fact that he was killed off in the previous episode. Apart from him, Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) and Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) have also agreed with fans regarding the failure of the show to meet expectations.

With all this built-up frustration, an individual named Dylan D. of Texas, USA took one for the team last week and started an online petition to “remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers”.

Dylan argues that David Benioff and D.B Weiss, both writers of the show, have proven themselves to be ‘woefully incompetent’ and that the show does not reflect on the books at all.

Some were also upset that it took so long for someone to finally say it.

The petition has now gathered over ONE MILLION signatures and has widely reflected on fan outrage at the show overall.

Professional therapists are even offering therapeutic services for people who have been severely impacted by the show taking a turn that they did not like.

There’s a website for Game of Thrones counseling service. Its description states that “the professionals will help them digest their feelings and interpretation of the show, which could range from anger and confusion to sadness and grief”. Fans can book 30-60 minute sessions online, face-to-face, and in groups.

The irony is,  Mr. Benioff himself said in one of his interviews that “a good story isn’t a good story if you have a bad ending”.

Throwing 8 years of character development “down the drain”, according to fans, has been just that- woefully disappointing. While it is unlikely that HBO will consider this request for a remake (despite its magnitude), we have definitely witnessed how controversial this last season has been.

There’s only one episode left- the season finale- and that airs later tonight (early tomorrow for those of us in Pakistan). Perhaps things might take a turn for the better?
