As per earlier announcement, the actress was awarded Tamgha e Imtiaz. While she proceeded to receive her award, her achievements were read out by the narrator who described the career of Mehwish. The narrator said, ” Mehwish started off her career with the drama serial Meray Qatil Meray Dildar, Her film Punjab Nahi Jaungi earned more than 52 crores thus to acknowledge her extraordinary performance in the field of acting, she’s being awarded Tamgha e Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan.”

To all the haters, let’s get this straight once and for all: Mehwish is one of the biggest box office stars in Pakistani cinema right now
She has starred in 3 of the 10 highest grossing Pakistani movies and those movies have made more than $12million at the box office. Her massive contribution to the economy and arts cannot be discredited. It’s highly unfair and extremely disrespectful of critics to call her award into question.
We as a nation need to respect our artists and our heroes, who tirelessly work in their respective fields to ensure that the country progresses. Or better yet, if you can’t say anything good about someone’s work it’s best to keep your mouth shut.
