For those of you who still may not know this, Mohammad Jibran Nasir is an independent candidate for the upcoming elections. He’s also an activist who’s been walking the talk as far as bringing about change is concerned.

However, not long ago, he live streamed this jarring video of him being forcefully taken away by some men. 

Though the initial video caused an outbreak of panic amongst Pakistanis, Jibran Nasir kept updating his followers as and when possible.

He highlighted that he was “assaulted and arrested by a protocol for not giving a VIP the way on the road.”

He also went on to address what happened…

The elaboration over what happened spanned over a few videos.

Moreover, since our awaam loves proof, he also documented an eyewitness’ take on the matter.

Jibran’s refusal to give way to a VIP’s protocol almost cost him his life. Even as a legitimate political candidate, he was not spared. Obviously, that sends a message to the rest of us and where we stand.

Arrest of Jibran Nasir is one bizarre development in an already bizarre political culture. I am failing to wrap my head around it.

People couldn’t help but feel angry.

Wtf is wrong with judges and their security protocols? A few days back, saw a video on Halaat Updates where a guy was getting slapped because he, allegedly, came in front of the judge's car, and now Jibran Nasir is beaten up and arrested by a similar protocol. VIP culture is shit

Moreover, they demanded that he be freed.

Activist Jibran Nasir should be released immediately. If he has committed any crime by not giving way to a VIP protocol register a case against him and deal accordingly. To torture and drag him or anyone is illegal. #FreeJibran

However, people also noted that what happened to Jibran wasn’t out of the ordinary.

What happened to Jibran Nasir is not unique in Pakistan. No doubt this country has become the most wretched place on earth. It will be a complete shithole in 20 years time.

Regardless, they were appreciative of his composed demeanor.

What shocked some people was the lack of media coverage regarding the matter.

No live coverage from any TV channel about Jibran Nasir! Even the tickers are about the FIFA WC. Shameless media tactic of not talking about him on screen that can reach masses. Abhi Salman Khan kuch karday toh sab rok k dikhayen haramkhor

Others also speculated over what would have happened had the detained not been Jibran.

What happened with Jibran Nasir today happens on regular basis with ordinary citizens. The judge saying “shukar karo thappar mara hai goli nahi” is a genuine threat, the vips won’t think twice before killing someone, it’s high time to collectively stand-up against vip culture.

Jibran Nasir, too, has been active and has been sharing updates.

He explained how things went down at the police station.

I was brought to the PS with orders "High Court Judge nay kaha hai isay thanay main band karo". After media came I became from "Abey Oye" to "Jibran sb". Only after media came I was allowed to go. One can only imagine what would have happened if it wasn’t Jibran Nasir they were dealing with. Moreover, what if it was someone else and the media simply didn’t intervene? One shudders at the mere thought of that scenario. However, it can’t be denied that such incidents take place time and again.

Talking to MangoBaaz about what happened, here’s what Jibran stated:

“I am not against the poor policeman who slapped me, poor man has to feed his family and [is] doing what he is told to do… I am against the system that teaches such behavior, where should I write a complaint against it?”

He also shared this video, further elaborating on his statement.

To have to face everything you speak against is a monumental task. However, Jibran and his supporters have managed to jump over this hurdle, raising awareness in the process. Here’s hoping this sets an example and serves as the much-needed blow to the existing VIP culture in Pakistan.
