Iqra Aziz in Jhooti is being questioned for perpetuating problematic views
Pakistani dramas tend to be problematic, and are often called out for the same in today’s day and age of social media. The same has happened with the Iqra Aziz starrer Jhooti, an upcoming show that also stars Yasir Hussain and Ahmed Ali Butt in lead roles. The drama hasn’t come out yet but a promo just dropped.
Soon after the promo for Iqra Aziz starrer Jhooti came out it caused quite a stir on social media

In the teaser clip, we see a bruised Iqra Aziz calling out men for the abuse of power. On the verge of tears, she points at her bruises as proof of what her horrible husband did to her. When she is about to burst in tears, we see a speck of deceit in her eyes. The next few glimpses indicate that her character may have done this to herself. Finally, she applauds herself, as she was rehearsing in front of a mirror.
People were shocked at this drama’s teaser
Where do I even fucking start with the #Jhooti trailer. I don't even want to start, I don't even want to think about it, I'm literally shaking.

People stated that this teaser invalidates the struggles of all those women who have been abused.
The society already doesn’t believe in the physical, emotional, sexual abuse women face, and shows like these don’t help. They minimize the struggles encountered by everyday women. https://t.co/fN2u3VRgml

Statistics were shared around the same to educate people who were influenced by Iqra Aziz and Jhooti
Roughly 5000 women get killed every year in domestic violence cases in Pakistan. This is the most tone deaf, insensitive shit someone can pull off. Bravo kanjaru https://t.co/6l2xd6cshh

It seems to be a step backward, given the current situation in the country where survivors are already never actually believed.
instead of making a drama about domestic violence towards women you make a drama about a woman lying about being abused invalidating other womens experience, sickening. https://t.co/l9qq8Qcegd

People were also mad at Iqra Aziz in Jhooti for portraying such a role
Does iqra aziz even realize the amount of struggles of domestic abuse survivors will she invalidate with her stupid upcoming drama? Obviously not 🙂

Please stop producing such dramas which depict women as lying, conniving, & deceitful. We already have such heavy discrimination in the workforce, daily lives, and continue to vilify a gender collectively. Stop depicting violence, hatred, ignorance against women. It’s primitive!!

Whatever the actual story is, let’s hope it isn’t based on faking abuse, as the teaser seems to imply. What do you think about this? Let us know.
