Here we go.

Imran Khan just spoke to the Pulwama attack, stating that our country will fight if India attacks.

The statement has come from our Prime Minister who delayed speaking on the attack as the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Muhammad Bin Salman was visiting Pakistan as part of an official visit, and did not want to direct attention away.

However, in this speech, Khan made it very clear that he has been well aware of the attack and more so of the media war that is already taking place in both Pakistan and India. Khan specifically referenced the hashtags trending on Twitter regarding Pakistan’s role in the attack and spoke to the fact that these cyber attacks were completely unwarranted.

To this, Imran said that if an attack towards Pakistan came at the hands of India, Pakistan would immediately retaliate.

Following this, Khan did say that first and foremost, the most ideal way of solving the issue would be through dialogue and proper communication between the two countries. He even said that if the Indian Government found any such proof of Pakistani forces being guilty, he would make sure that an investigation is opened to clear up the matter.

One quote in particular that has been picked up the media, is of Imran speaking on war itself,

He stated that the beginning of a war is in our hands, however, when that war ends, is not up to us. Conversation is needed in order to push the dialogue into a peaceful light rather than an accusatory one.

Pakistanis have been extremely happy with Imran’s performance this past week in his behaviour with the Prince and the progress with our labour workers in Saudi Arabia and this speech justified all the praise with even more appreciation for our him.

However perhaps, in reality, what Khan just did was let the Indian people and politicians know that we, as a defensive unit are now mobilized for war if it comes to it. Media publications and journalists are turning this declaration of violence into a moment of applause or even a standing ovation for our Prime Minister. However, if this kind of rhetoric builds, we may have just angered the opposition instead of welcoming them to speak in productive dialogue.

We will just have to see how the next couple of days progress and watch the clock to see who will make the first move.
