Eid Telefilms pull a pretty big audience during the Eid festivities. ‘Help Me Durdana’ was among one of the most hyped telefilms for Eid. Yasir Hussain stars in this as Dino, who has to act like his mom for parts of the film. The show got a lot of traction when pictures of Yasir’s look came out and was soon followed by the actor making an insensitive comment.
Khair, ‘Help Me Durdana’ aired on ARY Digital over the Eid break and we watched it see what it’s all about.
Dino and Maheen (Ushna Shah) are in love and want to get married to each other. Maheen’s father is already on the lookout for rishtas for her daughter but she refuses. She tells her father about Dino and her father announces that he wants to meet him and his mother. Her father’s condition is that Dino needs to be well settled and someone who is a ‘family man’- both things Dino is not. Maheen does not tell him that Dino’s mother has passed away thus creating the main tension of the telefilm.
Dino, Maheen, and Dino’s best friend butt heads over how to overcome this. Dino’s friend, who is a theatre actor, proposes that he dress up as Dino’s mother; he had to put his acting skills to use. Everyone agrees upon this idea, however, the next morning, Maheen and father arrive unannounced and Dino is home alone. He then takes it upon himself to play his mother, thus giving birth to the character of Durdana.
This is when things get a little creepy!
With the introduction of Durdana, there is an epic case of mistaken identity and each lie leads to another, and so on so forth. Dino and Maheen find themselves in a web of lies that they must survive and also come out the other side of, married. In the midst of all this, Maheen’s father is falling head over heels for Durdana.
From the get-go, Maheen’s father is after Durdana and with each passing moment, his attempts at wooing her only get bolder. He relentless and after watching the telefilm for a bit, I felt pretty weird, especially for Durdana. The dynamic between both the ‘parents’ keeps getting more tense, up to the point where Maheen’s father is fully convinced that he wants to marry Durdana. Strangely enough, Maheen doesn’t stop him but does make her disgust known.
Durdana/Dino are in a weird spot from the beginning. ‘Durdana’ needs to protect herself and her ‘son’ too, and they need to deal with Maheen’s father with extreme caution so that their wedding isn’t thrown out of the window. That being said, Durdana was still calling Maheen’s father out on his tharak.
Yasir Hussain’s performance as Durdana outshone his performance as Dino. Whenever she was in frame, you couldn’t help but look at her. Yasir was extremely convincing as Durdana and he truly breathe life into the character. The show definitely had its comedic moments and was a light watch for Eid. Other than Maheen’s father and his tharak, the show is a pretty good entertainer.
