Pakistan, These Are The Movies You Googled The Most In 2018

By Iman Zia | 13 Dec, 2018

Google’s famous ‘Year In Search’ is an annual end-of-year list compiled by Google where we get to see what topic were most trending each year. The most Googled movies in Pakistan consists of a list of films that have been the most relevant throughout the year. These movies have been in the limelight for various reasons; be it for national appraisal, or for national mocking!

Either way, here are the ten most searched movies in 2018.

1. ‘Race 3’

Despite being critically panned, ‘Race 3’ the Salman Khan starrer raked in more than Indian Rs. 300 crore at the box office. The film released on Eid, catalyzing the hype and was the usual masala film that many Sallu bhai fans highly anticipate.

2. ‘Sanju’

The biographical film based on Sanjay Dutt’s life was a massive hit. While there was diverse opinion over the authenticity of the film, the Rajkumar Hirani project was praised for Ranbir’s stellar performance. You can read our review about it here.

3. ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’

People love Salman Khan. And they love Katrina Kaif – and boy oh boy do they love them together. The sequel to the ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ garnered a whopping Indian Rs. 500 crore, but sadly it didn’t release in Pakistan because the censor board stated it depicted our country in a negative way…possibly increasing curiosity for us to search about it!

4. ‘Baaghi 2′

Another big budget masala film, the sequel to the original ‘Baaghi’  was of interest – not so much because of the film – rather. the two leads, Disha Panti and Tiger Shroff was and are an off-screen couple. (It got terrible reviews, just FYI).

5. ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’

One of the most highly anticipated movies of the year, ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ was bound to be a success – I mean, it had to be right? It had Aamir Khan, an actor who very carefully picks his scripts, along with Katrina for eye candy (and to a lesser extent Amitabh Bachchan). The visuals were far too impressive in the teasers and trailers, mirroring ‘Pirates Of The Carribean’ altogether. However, upon its release, it broke the internet for all the wrong reasons. People made endless fun of it, calling it the worst film of all time!!! It tanked at the box office and was critically panned too.

6. ‘Donkey King’

I mean…I honestly don’t know. It’s an animated film about a donkey. Maybe parents searched it to see if its worthy to show their kids?

7. ‘Avengers Infinity War’

It’s no secret that almost every Pakistani is a Marvel fan (I mean, honestly who isn’t)? The film earned more than $2 billion worldwide and was the top-grossing film of the year.

8.  ‘Black Panther’

The film was both a critical and commercial success, and not just because it was a Marvel film – it was Marvel’s FIRST black superhero movie. It earned an incredible $1 billion at the box office internationally, and the cultural representation of black culture in the movie was praised and commended, as were its protagonists.

9. Hate Story 4

Okay, I’ll be very blunt. This is a film that literally drips in sexual connotations. So like, what do you expect LOL. All the ‘Hate Story’ sequels have been very sexual in both storyline and, well visuals.

10. ‘Padmavati’

This film caused massive controversy, by far the most in the history of Indian cinema. It got to the point that the film’s lead actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh received death threats. The set of the film was vandalized by members of the Rajput caste claiming that the film depicts the Padmavati in a negative light for showing a Hindu-Muslim romance. The director of the film was also assaulted and riots were led across the country. It was banned, then released here too amidst all the chaos.
