Indian TikToker Faisal Shaikh had his account suspended for one of his videos.
TikTok is huge in the subcontinent with some users of the app having millions of followers. And Faisal ‘Faisu’ Shaikh is one of them – he and his friends make up the popular ‘Team 07’. The boys are incredibly popular on the app and have a massive following and a total of 1.3 billion views on their videos.
But they had their accounts suspended following an FIR launched against them by Shiv Sena activist Ramesh Solanki who complained that their video was inciting and encouraging violence.
The video in question was Team 07 talking about the lynching of Tabrez Ansari in Jharkhand. The video was immediately criticized by Indians for containing hate speech. But official action was taken against the group which resulted in TikTok issuing a statement as well.
TikTok’s statement said the video violated the platform’s rules and encouraged violence which is why it was removed and the accounts of three TikTok creators who belonged to Team 07 were suspended.
Since then, Team 07’s Faisal ‘Faisu’ Shaikh has issued an apology on his Instagram saying he never intended to hurt anyone’s feelings.
The video in question merely questioned the killing of an innocent Muslim man Tabrez Ansari at the hands of a Hindu extremist mob.
It then cautioned the public not to label Muslims as terrorists when in the future, the children of Tabrez Ansari take revenge for his murder.
The video was widely criticized for inciting violence and the cyber cell of India, as well as TikTok itself, found the video to be violating rules and laws because of which it was taken down. It is yet to be seen whether or not any serious legal action will be taken against Team 07 for the video since the complaint has been launched.
