Dogs are a very sensitive topic in Pakistan. Religious debates around the four-legged furry muppets always surface online, with many condemning any association with them. Ali Rehman Khan recently advocated how we should treat our dogs better in Pakistan, and said how upsetting it was that in most circumstances they aren’t as loved as they ought to be.
The actor was out for a walk when he encountered two Golden Retrievers. The interaction got him thinking about how dogs are treated in Pakistan.
He relayed how it broke his heart “to see all those dogs neglected” and wished “more people had dogs inside their houses as members of their families in Pakistan rather than keeping them outside in cages and in gardens.”
“Dogs are a gift, literally the best friends you will ever have, ever!” exclaimed Ali.
Here’s his full statement:
“Those moments when nothing else makes you happier. Chilled with these cuties when I saw them on the side walk strutting around. Which makes me think about how dogs are kept in Pakistan. I really wish more people had dogs inside their houses as members of their families in Pakistan rather than keeping them outside in cages and in gardens. Breaks my heart to see all those dogs neglected. I feel sorry for people who don’t give themselves the opportunity to experience the love of a dog every second they’re around one. Dogs are a gift, literally the best friends you will ever have, ever! Embrace their love! ❤️🐶 #goldenretriever #dogs#mansbestfriend #bestdayever”
While many posted little messages of love and lots of ‘awwws,’
There were many who sparked a debate underneath Ali’s post, disagreeing with the actor’s opinion about dogs being inside the house.
A few responded to the comments above, with this particular one summing a rebuttal up very nicely.
While religion is a personal matter and no one should pass any comment or judgment on another’s religious preference, it’s unfortunate that many do not understand this. Live and let live. Who are we to judge anybody?
