Realistic resolutions for a new you
What a ride 2019 has been, right?
With 2020 just about to begin, let’s get down to some actual stuff that we need to do i.e. making goals that are realistic, positive and helpful for us to grow and become even better versions of ourselves.
Lol, that’s how New Years works, right?
One of the oldest New Year traditions in the book is to come up with fun resolutions that most of us literally never keep. Ziada seh ziada the first week is full of ‘healthy eating’ and gym workouts. But like, lol, – that’s it.
SO! In the spirit of keeping things realistic, we thought we would make a list of resolutions you can ACTUALLY keep in 2020.
Enjoy. P.s. For those of you who answered this question on Instagram, we snuck in a couple of answers of yours.
1. STAYING HYDRATED IN 2020
WATERRRRRRRRRRR.
2. Getting at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night is a realistic resolution you NEED in your life
Okay fine at LEAST 6 to 7.
3. A good realistic resolution is to increase your knowledge and learn something new
“Iss saal parhna hai yaar.”
Yaar, come on yaar.
4. Being more grateful for the things you have, rather than wanting the things you don’t is a realistic resolution that will help you be better
This is for every year.
5. Investing more in skin care and being healthy
Even though inner beauty is the most important thing, taking care of your body is just as necessary. Invest in YOURSELF.
6. No more fake people in 2020.
Having a happy life is all about surrounding yourself with the right people. Make 2020 the year to cleanse yourself of people who don’t have your best interests at heart. You will be much better for it.
7. Staying fit, not SKINNY should be the realistic resolution you aspire to
No, this does not entail extreme dieting or insane fitness workouts. It just means eating healthy, drinking water and getting enough sleep. And don’t be fooled, this is realistic.
8. Making sure you have time for yourself and your mental health
Even if it’s just an hour a day in the mornings.
9. Appreciate your body for what it is
Be aware of how much your body does for you every single second of every single day.
10. Another good realistic resolution is to be someone who reads actual books before the world ends thanks to climate change
In a world full of technology and screens literally everywhere, we have got to give our eyes a break and our minds a chance to use our imagination. One of the best ways to exercise your brain is by reading. Whether it’s magazines, comics, newspapers or books – pick your fave and enjoy.
11. Be as positive as possible
No matter what happened in 2019, 2020 is a whole other year. You have the chance to tackle problems and issues with the utmost positivity.
12. One of the realistic resolutions is to cut down on social media time rather than completely deleting it
This is a difficult one but for those of you who may feel as though social media can be heavy on your shoulders, make the small change of actively closing the app for a couple of hours every day. P.s., I deleted the Facebook app from my phone and it worked WONDERS.
13. Listen more. Speak less
Yeah yeah, we all hear people talk but do we actually listen them? Pakistanis are infamous for arguing. Let’s try and make 2020 a more open and understanding year. Listen to what people say to you, even if you don’t necessarily agree with them.
14. Find something you’re passionate about.
A language, a cooking class, a sport, a book club, life is nothing if it’s not with purpose. Find yours and let is consume you!
15. Make sure your parents worry less.
Whether that’s calling them every now and then if you’re far away or not coming home at 3 am in the morning every night after chilling with friends.
16. Reach out to the people you’ve, ‘been meaning to message.’
With all the deaths and suicides in 2019, the one thing this year taught us is that life cannot be taken lightly. Reach out to the people you haven’t spoken to in a while. Sometimes a simple hello can brighten up someone’s day, much more than you think.
17. Travel!
Okay yeah, this is pretty much everyone’s new year resolution every year, but only because it’s a good one! It doesn’t matter if this means going to a city half an hour away or traveling to a whole other continent. Traveling is one of the best things you can do to expand your knowledge of the world and there is no time like the present.
18. Just be your best self
Wherever this applies to you, in whatever aspect of your life – always just do the best that you can.
19. But one of the best realistic resolutions is to always move on
^ Kisses to 2019.
Metaphorical ~ The point of a new year is exactly that. It is a new year. Enjoy the idea and possibility of a new slate and start completely fresh.
Enjoy, friends and good luck!
