14 Childhood Memories Of Growing Up in Pakistan

By Umair Mahmood | 11 Jul, 2015

As you grow older, a lot of things start happening around you. College, graduation, jobs, marriage, kids, etc. With so much going on around us,  it’s easy to forget about the precious moments during our childhood that influenced the type of people we are today. So here’s a trip down memory lane for those of you that grew up in Pakistan. Time to get a bit nostalgic.

1. Running after ringing your neighbor’s doorbell.

Probably one of your most cherished memories. Remember when you used to go up in small groups and run away after ringing doorbells while the people shouted at you for your mischievous behavior? Ahh, the life of a rebel.

2. Breaking car windows while playing cricket

No one wanted to intentionally break a car window. Well, most people. But when you did, your heart stopped beating and you ran for your life.

3. Falling asleep on the sofa and waking up in bed.

You’d often fall asleep on a sofa and woke up in bed thanks to your parents. Too bad you’re too heavy for this now.

4. Playing ludo and monopoly with your close ones.

Long before Facebook and other social media platforms, these board games used to be a big source of your entertainment (or frustration).

5. Panicking on results day.

Perhaps you didn’t perform as well as you expected in your final exams. The result day was something you looked forward to and dreaded at the same time.

6. Wearing colored clothes and not uniforms during parties in school.

The one day when you felt more than a student and had the freedom to wear what you wanted.

7. Jumping over the sofas while your parents were out.

This meant freedom to fulfill your heart’s desire. More specifically, this meant jumping from your stairs to the sofa and ruining the springs of the sofa in the process.

8. Getting the home walls dirty by drawing cartoons on them.

Okay this might not have been intentional, but your little minds were too immature to understand the damage you were causing to your house.

9. Putting stickers on furniture.

While you used to think that putting stickers on furniture was a cool thing for you to do, you now feel bad for destroying the fine furniture in your home.
