Mahira Khan Just Stood Up In Support Of Sharmeen Obaid In The Whole Harassment Controversy

By Alveena Jadoon | 30 Oct, 2017

Mahira Khan has things to say about this incident.

Oscar winner, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, has been trolled on social media a lot during the past week over harassment allegations. Pakistanis were furious that a doctor, father of four, lost his job because of a friendship request.

Sharmeen’s allegation against the doctor hasn’t exactly been received with support for the victims

With people supporting the doctor in this case, t just showed how repressive we are toward the women who come out to speak about what they feel is harassment.

Many famous people had their opinions to share about this incident

The latest celebrity to join the bandwagon to comment on the frenzy is Mahira Khan

In an interview with a show on Geo News on Monday, Mahira was asked about her opinion about Sharmeen’s case. She was there to promote her new Shoaib Mansoor movie “Verna”, with her costar Haroon Shahid.

Mahira Khan recently was also a victim of public hate and understands Sharmeen’s position at the moment

And she had this to say about the Sharmeen Obaid incident:

“If you have power to utilize a platform for good then you should. A doctor who takes your info and then adds you on a social media platform is breaking a code of conduct…it is unprofessional.”

Mahira did say that one can debate about whether or not it was harassment BUT it did make the family uncomfortable. And that is what matters

She also discussed the hate that people shower in such situations. The mob mentality in people decreases their ability to empathize with people. And they ultimately resort to threats to become a part of the trend.

“Faceless people talking about things harshly, abusing you and your family does take its toll, no matter how famous you are. These are keyboard terrorists.”

Here’s the interview wherein she shared her opinion:
