Seriously? Wow.

Police and Army Staff in Pakistan have always been viewed in the highest regard.

The respect for them in this country is absolutely immeasurable and is carried on through generations. However, due to some recent events, it seems as though the Punjab Police, in particular, is garnering a bit of hate.

The Punjab Police suspended an Officer, but it turned out he wasn’t even on the force.

In fact, he’s an actor.

After a video had gone viral of a ‘Police Officer’ dancing with a woman in a red dress, an Inspector Arshad was suspended from his post in Kalyana. The District Police Officer, Pakpattan Maria Mehmood also ordered an inquiry against the Inspector.

However, that’s when the Facebook comments started rolling in…

Turns out, the ‘Officer’ in the video, wasn’t an officer at all. In fact, the man dancing in the video is actually a stage actor named Shahzad Asi.

In a recent interview done by ‘Business News,’ Asi said, “We were shooting for a drama rehearsal and its clip went viral. I have no connection to police, it is a respectable institution,” he said and apologized if the video hurt anyone’s sentiments.”

The video was posted on social media by Asi’s nephew and immediately spread everywhere. And though the matter of the Officer’s identity was cleared up, there was still one major issue to address.

The Punjab police literally suspended an Officer just because a video of him dancing with a woman went viral on social media. AND IT WASN’T EVEN HIM.

Not only is that absolutely unacceptable in regards to ethical work procedures, but it is also baffling that the Punjab Police did not have this figured out before Asi, the stage actor, took action.

The ‘inquiry’ issued against Officer Arshad, the ACTUAL Officer stationed in Kalyana was to look into two videos that were found of him. The first is a clip of the Officer delivering a Bollywood dialogue from the film, ‘Shootout At Wadala,’ while the other was the video of him dancing with a woman in a red dress which turns out, wasn’t him.

Our question, is how the Punjab Police sack an Officer that didn’t exist in the first place?

As we said, people in this country have the utmost respect for soldiers in the armed forces set to protect all of us. However, with issues and setbacks as minor yet important as this one, how are we supposed to react? Not cool, friends. Not cool.
