If you’ve been towards the purana side of Lahore lately, you may have noticed something a little different about the Lahore Museum.
Or if on social media, the giant Shaitaan looking figure in the middle of the ground.
Yah! That’s the one.
The sculpture has been making its rounds on social media lately, many people wondering what it is and more so, who put it there. Finally, we got some clarity from the University of Punjab, who put out a post regarding the statue.
Another milestone achieved by a student of #CollegeofArtsandDesign , University of the Punjab. A gigantic statue placed…
The statue was made by Irbaat Ul Hassan, a student of the College of Art and Design in Lahore. The statue is apparently one of a number of statues to be unveiled by the Museum in an outdoor exhibition.
Now, it turns out, the sculpture itself was actually commissioned by the student by Verve PR for a party. Not entirely sure how it came from that place to its current location, but we would love it if any of you guys could fill us in.
Clearly, the work is outstanding and it is super impressive to know that the sculpture was made by a student. Many people carried the same sentiment in terms of the statue,
However, some people were not thrilled at the idea that a ‘shaitaan-style’ statue was put in the middle of the Lahore Museum.
This hate was pretty intense and well, ended up leading to a petition to take the statue down.
Oh yeah, people were offended.
However, if you have come to read this post and have ended up this far in the piece, also take the time to appreciate the hard work and effort this student put into his craft. Making a 20-foot tall statue is no small feat and it’s talent like this that we should applaud rather than demonize, pun intended.
Have you seen the sculpture? Let us know what you think in the comments below! Love you.
