Coke Studio season is upon us. This season has already been creating some buzz with the introduction of ‘Coke Studio Explorer’. There has been no official announcement from the people at Coke about who all are performing in this year’s installment of the show, however in the depths of the internet and social media, we’ve received our first clue, and we are amazed.
The American band, Krewella, are performing this season.
Who are ‘Krewella’, you ask? The band is made up of two Pakistani-American sisters, Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf. They don’t dwell in traditional music, they mostly deal in the universe of EDM. Their music has gained popularity in America and even have a following here in Pakistan.
They regularly perform at music festivals across the USA and even had the honor of having their debut album ‘Get Wet’ featured in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 200.
The news came from a website called PakManzil who claim that a team member from Coke Studio shared this image with them, thereby giving this rumor a visual. In the photo, we can spot Krewella, Ali Noor, and the Coke Studio’s Qawaals.
This is the first time Coke Studio will be featuring an EDM band and the prospect is pretty exciting.
We usually see a fusion of pop music with traditional Pakistani music but it will be interesting to see the intersection of this new music trend with Pakistani music and instruments.
The sisters had announced a concert in Pakistan, however, this had to be canceled due to the political situation at the time.
Let’s hope this is the start of a new relationship between Krewella and Pakistan, maybe even get some concerts in as well.
