Iqra Aziz Just Opened Up For The First Time About THAT Marital Rape Scene In ‘Ranjha Ranjha Kardi'

Iqra Aziz aka Ranjha Ranjha Kardi ki Noori has finally spoken up

Probably the most popular drama these days has yet again succeeded in keeping us at the edge of our seat. I’m sure many of you have been keeping up with ‘Ranjha Ranjha Kardi’ – a very captivating serie – starring Iqra Aziz as Noori and Imran Ashraf as Bhola, a mentally challenged man.

The compelling storyline and the top-notch acting in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi have made this show a fan favorite

But ever since the show addressed the concept of marital rape, it’s been causing a lot of people a lot of discomfort

One has to concede that the show has raised a very important discussion. People can’t stop arguing and debating over it ever since the mentally handicapped Bhola physically violated his wife, Noori, back in episode 20 – essentially committing marital rape. Imran Ashraf had commented to MangoBaaz that the scene of marital rape was extremely difficult for him to film.

And now, Iqra Aziz finally spoke up about her experience filming the gruesome scene

In a recent Instagram post, Iqra Aziz shed light onto the issue of consent and wrote, that “one of the most pressing issues today that we don’t talk about is marital abuse”. I couldn’t agree more. Any form of rape, whether martial or not is constantly suppressed in our society.

She talked about how ‘Ranjha Ranjha Kardi’ is a channel through which they “have tried to highlight [the] issue” of marital rape. She goes on to explain it doesn’t just affect a woman physically but also “mentally and emotionally”.

She explains that our society thinks of “marriage as a binding contract to anything and everything, but marriage is based on trust and love and consent”. And unfortunately, women “have to fight constantly for their consent”. And she’s totally right.

Her post sparked a debate specifically about whether or not mental illnesses affect people to the extent that they commit such vicious acts.

Her co-star, Imran Ashraf, chimed in and supported Iqra’s point of view

He commented that since his character, Bhola, is mentally ill, he didn’t understand. Due to certain meds and encouragement from his trouble-making friends, Bhola committed the heinous act. Okay… But does that mean it’s okay? Does that mean Noori, who does understand what’s going on has to endure these actions?

While some of you may agree with Imran, others, including myself, don’t. Mental illness isn’t an excuse, and Yasir Hussain explained in the comments why

He replied to Imran Ashraf’s comment on Iqra’s post and says that whatever the reasons were, in the end, “it’s about a normal girl who got raped.” And goes on to say that “shaadi ka matlab aurat ko khareedna nahi hai“. Which are probably the truest words spoken in this whole debate.

And of course, Yasir had to add that he “like[s] when our lead actresses talk about such issues”.

We see you Yasir! He also did give a pat on the back to Imran and told him he’s a “wonderful actor”. Cute.

As the show reaches new levels through the complex chemistry between the two, I sincerely hope Noori’s suffering ends and the drama is able to appropriately address this issue, and show the audience, the proper way with how to deal with marital rape.

It’s important for influential media to speak up about issues our society constantly faces and I hope ‘Ranjha Ranjha Kardi’ is able to successfully depict the reality as well as the outcome of such actions.
