Fawad Chaudhry tried to kill two birds with one tweet and it blew up in his face.
The Minister for Information has been very actively using Twitter. He even set up an account from the Information Ministry which is solely for alerting people about ‘fake news’. But when it comes to his personal Twitter account, he clearly needs some help as well.
Earlier today, Fawad Chaudhry tweeted a congratulatory tweet about cricketer Yasir Shah breaking a record which is over 82 years old
He asked the media to give the cricketer his fair share of publicity. And while this was quite sweet of him the next part of his tweet took a weird and unexpected turn. He called Senator Sherry Rehman a person who had done nothing for the country and as someone who has already ‘hone (sic: gone) in the wastebin of history’.
Um, woah? That was a little uncalled for and pretty harsh.
So happy for #YasirShah you made us proud boy, come on Pak media give this legend his due whats the fun in showing a presser of reminants of past like @sherryrehman she has zero contribution to the people or society these people have already hone in the wastebin of the history

This was probably referring to how the media should not waste airtime reporting on Senator Sherry Rehman since according to the Minister she was irrelevant now but focus on Yasir Shah instead. However, he could have just prompted the media to focus on Yasir Shah instead of trying to drag Senator Sherry Rehman but okay…
A lot of people thought his tweet was a low blow and defended Sherry Rehman.
Sherry Rehman:
*Editor in Chief, Herald
*Federal Minister for Information
*Founder & Chair, Jinnah Institute *Ambassador to the United States
*Dy Chairperson, Senate @fawadchaudhry:

Those comments about sherry rehman are not only incorrect but utterly unbecoming of you fawad bhai. This is uncalled for and offensive.

In many ways, Sherry Rehman is a trailblazer for what Pakistani women can achieve in public life. Sherry is arguably one of the most successful female Pakistani politicians alive today and incidentally doesn’t draw her political capital from her husband or father’s name.

You need to exercise more maturity and restraint as the Information Minister.

This is in bad taste. Sherry Rehman has lots of contributions for Pakistan. Such remarks from a federal minister. Kaisi tabdeeli hai yay sir?
Also remnant hota hai, reminant nahen. Kuch nahen to unse ap angrezi he seekhlen.

The funny thing is, with this tweet the Information Minister did exactly what he was asking the media not to do; focus on Yasir instead of Sherry Rehman.
While Senator Sherry Rehman did not respond to the comments herself, she thanked those who responded to the Information Minister on her behalf.
Thank u everyone, for standing up for me 🙏 Am not going to dignify personal slurs by responding in kind. It is absolutely our right to push back against rule by ordinance, and will continue to do so without muddying the political waters with personal attacks. #NoToTrolling

And her office reminded Fawad Chaudhry of just some of her accomplishments.
FYI:as Minister Information @sherryrehman repealed the media gag laws institute by Gen Mosharraf, Zia and even Ayub Khan in 100 days. She later resigned 4 fed ministries when a few tv channels were under threat of closure. Moved Freedom of Information Bill. Award-winning journo 2

Pretty dignified for someone who is apparently already in the ‘wastebin of history’.
