It’s 2018. Social media has opened up opportunities for many people. By far, the largest ‘trend’ to come up online is ‘makeup tutorials’ and ‘makeup lessons’. What started out with a few people doing these videos has become a large online business. Now, young girls are also making space for themselves in this online space. This is where Armeena Khan comes in.
The actress was scrolling through Instagram when she found teens not only wearing makeup but also teaching it.
Now we’ve all heard our moms, or older sisters/cousins talking about how they weren’t allowed to wear makeup for the longest time.
Just scrolled through tons and tons of makeup “tutorials” on Instagram. I’m shocked at the 13 year olds teaching me on how to conceal 🤓😜. Man, my mom didn’t let me wear makeup till I was 19! The only makeup I had was mud and grass (on my face) from wrecking my mums garden 😆

‘The only makeup I had was mud and grass’; okay Armeena, that’s pushing it a little bit.
Of course, there was discussion over the very need for makeup
UMmm

do you really think that you need any artificial make over when God has blessed you with natural beauty?

Armeena tried to ‘clapback’
For television it’s required. Something, the public doesn’t understand obviously.

But this man retorted with his profession of love
@ArmeenaRK Muhtermaa you played a great role in Jannan and Bin roye .i fell in love for your simplicity

It didn’t take too long for someone to say ‘Kids these days’
Same. I was not allowed to wear any makeup before my engagement. Even on my engagement day my parents were not very keen on getting me done from a salon.
Kids of today…they have so much to prove already!

People told stories of families threatening to disown if they did anything too drastic
My mom still gets furious when i put on base or eyeliner and im 23 😪 she says dont call me mama if u ever dyed ur hair 😅

It’s all a Western ‘saazish’
It’s all Kim K’s fault..

Basically, stuff has gone to shit
But I do think the new generation of girls who have learnt make up at such a young age isn't right because society now is so harsh at times and girls are quick to judge you on appearance. Where has natural beauty disappeared to?

Naya Generation. Naya Soch. Naya Pakistan (okay, sorry)
This is Gen Z for you. Their outlook on the world is unique, from their attitudes toward people, to their perspective on technology.

Damn you, capitalism
that is the way children should be. there is only one winner in all of this – the cosmetics company. Business is all about making people insecure, whether its home insurance, life insurance, fashion, cosmetics etc.

It’s not like knowing how to contour is a mark of ANYTHING
It’s sad to see youngsters nowadays just care about how they look and are always in competition. Most of them don’t even look their age! Im glad I had a proper childhood and was able to do things children should do. I’m 27 and STILL don’t know how to contour 😂

Now Armeena, you’re a great actress and everything but like, this is the age of social media. Must you really compare your ‘mud and grass days’ to these girls contouring at 13. As some people said ‘woh zamana hi kuch aur tha!’ It’s great that girls are getting this exposure at this age, it’s great for their confidence and I’m pretty sure they’re making money out of it too- who can be mad at that? GOOD FOR THEM!
