Here's Why PEMRA Actually Banned Aamir Liaquat From Your TV

By Momina Mindeel | 26 Jan, 2017

Aamir Liaquat Hussain, the Pakistani TV host and religious televangelist, of the Aalim Online and Inaam Ghar fame was recently  prohibited by PEMRA from hosting any program or appearing on TV in any manner.

The TV host had recently started appearing on BOL television for his new show Aisay Nahi Chalay Ga.

Last Friday, after the four bloggers and social media activists went missing, lawyer and political activist Muhammad Jibran Nasir had filed a complaint with PEMRA alleging Aamir Liaquat of running a ‘defamatory and life threatening campaign’.

Aamir Liaquat had been critical of Nasir, Geo TV and Dawn News, for asking for the recovery of the disappeared bloggers and accusing state authorities for being involved with their disappearance.

Each day defamatory programs with blasphemy accusations continue people's life/reputation is being endangered on PEMRA's watch @reportpemra

Liaquat addressed Jibran Nasir the following day in his program and accused him of being ‘anti-Pakistan’, ‘anti-Islam’ and an atheist.

Aamir Liaqauat was allegedly also involved in maligning the acclaimed Pakistani dancer Sheema Kirmani because she participated in the rally demanding the release of Salman Haider and other social media activists.

Aamir Liaquat’s shows have been notorious for inciting violence against people who oppose his notions of religion and life

It is claimed, by some, that so far three people have been killed, as a direct result of Aamir Laiquat’s intense hate speech.

A few days back, Aamir Liaquat had even played a video showing Om Puri’s ghost searching for his murderer outside his house, during his show.

People were flabbergasted to say the least.

Aamir Liaquat Hussain allegedly exposed Geo TV and Bhensa (a Facebook page that he claims is run by Jibran Nasir) of committing blasphemy and showed several screenshots during the show all the while chanting “Astaghfirullah” and “main tou yeh parh bhi nai sakta.”

PEMRA, observed his show for a few weeks, after receiving ‘hundreds of complaints for hate speech’ before deciding to ban the show for an indefinite period of time.

PEMRA further stated in the notification that BOL’s license would be cancelled if it failed to comply with the orders and keep Aamir Liaquat from appearing on BOL under any capacity.

According to PEMRA, “during several weeks it has been monitored that Aamir Liaquat host of the program Aisay Nahi Chalay Ga, in the episodes broadcast on BOL News from January 2, 2017 to January 24, 2017, has willfully and repeatedly made statements and allegations which tantamount to hate speech, derogatory remarks, incitement to violence against citizens and casting accusation of being anti-state and anti-Islam, on various individuals.”

More than 86 thousands complaints had been filed against the host in the past days.

Hate speech and rampant blasphemy allegations for personal vendettas serve nothing but to incite the general public against a certain group of people, or individuals. Sane, civilized discussion in order to move toward a collective agreement over issues is the Utopian dream one can always aspire to.
