We Saw The First Episode Of Zahid Ahmed's New Drama And Could This Be Our New Obsession?

By Iman Zia | 24 Jun, 2019

Zahid Ahmed cherry picks his roles for television remarkably meticulously. The actor has morphed into hysterical villains (Visaal) or politically-driven anarchists (Besharam) and has unfailingly left a mark on audiences in a very salvaged drama industry. Despite a few hiccups, Zahid’s roles are hardly ever run-of-the-mill.

‘Ishq Zahe Naseeb’ is the actor’s latest venture, and unarguably his most experimental role yet.

While the first episode was mediocre at most, we were teased towards the end with Zahid’s tantalizing role as Sameer, someone who has a split personality disorder. The teasers of the drama have been very impressive, with director Farooq Rind crafting a unique spin with Sameer’s disorder; Yumna is, in fact, playing Sameer’s reflection and subconscious.

Sonya Hussyn and Sami Khan were unnecessarily given far too much screen space in inadequate attempt to essay an all-too-recycled love story.

There was nothing striking in both Sonya and Sami’s roles, albeit fetal – hopefully, their love story thickens into a more distinctive narrative because they’re both phenomenal actors who deserve a deeply entrenched drama to perform.

The most salient moment of the episode was its final (saving grace) scene with Yumna and Zahid.

It was perfectly executed; Yumna’s character was sensual in her conversation with Zahid but we almost instantly realized Yumna was not human – rather an extension of Zahid’s mind. We see him smile for the first time after a stressful day, and the yearning in his eyes when he looks at her as she speaks is incredible; his only comfort is a side he hides from the world.
