Shireen Mazari’s letter against Priyanka Chopra might have gotten a UN response

Pakistan’s Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari lent her voice and influence to the current movement where people are asking the UN to revoke Priyanka Chopra’s status as a UNICEF ambassador.

Shireen Mazari’s letter against Priyanka Chopra was addressed to Executive Director of UNICEF Henrietta Fore.

The letter expressed concerns about Priyanka Chopra’s pro-war comments which have been not only hurtful to Pakistan but dangerous. There have been various petitions floating around the internet asking the UN to take action and remove Priyanka Chopra as an ambassador for UNICEF.

During a daily briefing Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was asked about the UN’s intentions to remove Priyanka Chopra, he said the UN had no plans to do so.

“When they speak on behalf of the UNICEF, we expect them to adhere to Unicef’s evidence-based impartial positions.” He went on to add, “the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors are prominent individuals who have agreed to generously volunteer their time and their public profile to promote children’s rights.” So basically, Priyanka is going nowhere.

No doubt that Pakistanis all across the globe will be incredibly disheartened to hear the news since the campaign to have Priyanka removed as an ambassador had been gaining even more steam after Priyanka was questioned by a Pakistan-American journalist at a Beauty Convention about her pro-war stance and did not clearly say she is against war but only claimed to be a patriot.

And it’s clear that Priyanka is getting a lot of love and support from her own country, even actors like Ayushmann Khurrana have come out in support of her.

Anti-Pakistan sentiment in India remains as high as ever and is majorly fueled by Bollywood’s representation of the country in their films. With Shahrukh Khan’s latest Netflix show Bard of Blood’s trailed just adding to the long list.

What do you think of Priyanka Chopra staying as a UNICEF ambassador? Let us know in the comments below.
