King Khan Just Revealed He Won't Be Doing Bollywood Films For A While And It's About Time

Shah Rukh Khan just admitted he’s been having a bit of bad luck with his string of recent films that have been terrible flops with both critics and audiences. The actor’s stardom has been dwindling at most, with ‘Happy New Year’ being his last 100-crore-club hit. It begs to ask, could this be it for King Khan?

Shah Rukh Khan’s film ‘Dilwale’ was the pinnacle of his downfall, after local box office results were subpar. It was an unfortunate dizzying downfall for King Khan from there on.

Shah Rukh’s subsequent films like ‘Fan,’ ‘Dear Zindagi,’ ‘Raees,’ ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal,’ and ‘Zero’ tainted his declining career and hold as the ‘King Khan.’ Simultaneously, you had his contemporary Khans venture into different entertainment realms – Saif Ali Khan for ‘Sacred Games,’ Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ and Salman Khan’s ‘Kick,’ ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ among others.

It’s worth noting that while ‘Raees’ and ‘Dear Zindagi’ were more experimental roles for Shah Rukh, he sadly went back to ‘leave-your-brain-at-home’ projects.

As a former King Khan fan, I feel incredibly betrayed by a man I once admired tremendously for his fabulous choice in films.

I began pining for the SRK from breathtaking gems like ‘Dil Se,’ ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and ‘Swades;’ three pivotal films that truly mold as an emblem to the actor’s versatility. I feel like the day he began choosing roles that would give him the ‘box office’ hit was the day he lost his essence as King Khan. As he digressed from his shimmering legacy by choosing Farah Khan and Rohit Shetty (how on earth could these ‘masala,’ mindless directors help grow his career) over Mani Ratnam or Vikramaditya Motwane, it really did mark the end of his career.

The actor revealed that he had no films in the pipeline, and had made no decisions regarding when he’d do another one.

The actor said in a Q&A session, “at this point, I have not decided anything; I’m just listening to films, I’m going to spend some time and by June I should take a call about which film I want to do.” I used to love Shah Rukh Khan, really I did. However, like most Bollywood actors, he lost his dignity after ‘Ra One’ – and it was only a dizzying downfall from there on for his wavering career. When I saw him in ‘Raees,’ I finally thought I had found my King Khan once more; he was simply marvelous in it – he then followed it with Dear Zindagi,’ a slight twist on ‘Good Will Hunting,’ but still gorgeous despite a few narrative hiccups. He should have taken a hiatus a very, very long time ago. Better late than never I suppose.

Is this really it for Shah Rukh Khan?
