The Police Says They've Arrested Zainab's Murderer And People Are Demanding Immediate Punishment

Earlier this month, 7-year old Zainab was raped and subsequently murder in Kasur. The story took social media by storm and #justice4zainab became one of the top trends on Twitter in Pakistan. People have been demanding that justice be served as soon as possible. It appears that the Police may have finally arrested a suspect.

 

 The Police has arrested a man named Imran who happens to be a neighbor of the deceased girl

The suspect, Imran, who is 24 years old and a resident of Kot Road, is said to be a frequent visitor to Zainab’s house. Earlier on, Imran was arrested however let go before DNA testing could take place. It is said that Zainab’s family had intervened and described him as someone familiar and trusted. Following his dismissal he fled from Kasur and went to reside in Pak Pattan. The suspect was picked up five days earlier on the orders of the District Police Officer.

While Imran has reportedly confessed to the crime, according to Geo News the confirmation will be given in this regard after a DNA report is received.

 

Earlier on CCTV footage was released where in the suspect sporting a beard was shown strolling with Zainab

It is further said that the suspect had shaved off his beard in order to avoid arrest.

Given the public’s sentiments over the entire case, some demanded that the suspect be immediately punished

 

It is understandable that public anger is at its highest and there is strong reaction toward the very powerful conversation on sexual abuse that has started from this very unfortunate case, however, public hangings and mob mentality is something that needs to be controlled in order to maintain a decorum and any remaining sense of civility.
