This Karachi-Based Illustrator’s Wedding Cards Are SO Amazing That They're Even Viral In India

By Mashal Abbasi | 3 Feb, 2019

Ameer Ali is a Karachi-based children’s book illustrator who’s found himself caught up in Pakistan’s most profitable industry – weddings. He dabbles in making wedding cards and they’re actually pretty amazing.

It all started when his wife, Misbah, posted a picture of their wedding card on a closed, ladies-only Facebook group. It’s safe to say it was very well received. “My inbox was flooded with so many messages after that post, it was crazy!” says Ali.

“I always wanted to get out of conventional designs and explore modern trends. Being an illustrator and a huge fan of hand lettering, I tried to incorporate both in my card.”

And boy did he do just that; his card is just the cutest!

The 30-year-old Iqra University graduate is a freelancer and educator, teaching classes at both IVS and KU.

“I’ve been drawing since I was in primary school and took some online courses a few years ago, where I studied human anatomy, digital painting, life drawing and character design,” says Ali. He’s been illustrating professionally for about seven years now, and has worked mainly on children’s books, – until now that is.

Following the popularity of his own wedding card, Ameer found a new message in his DMs – one from Indian TV actress Sheena Bajaj.

“It came up like any other normal DM, but I was amazed when I found out that she was a celebrity across the border.” The card he designed for the actress’s wedding also went viral, with even the Times of India featuring it in an article.

Hot off his 15 minutes of fame in India, the illustrator is gaining even more popularity here in Pakistan. He recently appeared on a morning segment on Aaj Pakistan and was interviewed by none other than Sidra Iqbal about his bespoke wedding card.
