Acclaimed Pakistani playwright and director Khalil-ur-Rehman revealed in an interview how working with actress Urwa Hocane was by far the most harrowing experience of his life. Known for pioneering dramas like ‘Sadqay Tumhare’ and ‘Pyarey Afzal,’ the director gave an interview to EPK news where he said that he wants only “honest” people working for him.
He said that Uwra was not the first choice for his film, but “she was begging for the film, she was absolutely begging for the film”
He admitted that his fondness for Urwa’s husband, Farhan Saeed made it harder for him to deny her role. He admitted that “he loves him, he loves him even today.” She was cast as the lead of upcoming film ‘Kaaf Kangana,’ having replaced Sohai Ali Abro. Khalil apologized on-screen to Sohai for replacing her and said she came to him and wept.
The director couldn’t work with Urwa and admitted to taking sleeping pills out of stress and would often see Farhan’s face appear before him
He said he took around 70 pills to deal with the stress of deciding to remove Urwa from the film. He then opted for a new girl, Eshal Fayyaz and had nothing but praise for her. He said he has not seen someone this “dedicated” or “hardworking” until now in his twenty years in the fraternity.
He wished Urwa good luck before worriedly saying that he was terrified of working with her again
Khalil then vowed never to work with the actress ever again, having been so traumatized by Urwa’s behavior and “dishonesty,” and will only cast new leads for his upcoming dramas and films.
