We all use mahawray to convey sass and sarcasm in the Urdu language. Some of us may use them more than others but that doesn’t mean these mahawray mean anything less or aren’t as “cool” as some other things.
We did literal illustrations for some of your favorite ones (even if the last time you’ve ever used these are from your Urdu classes back in school). Can you guess these without the names at the bottom of the illustrations?
Zakhmoun per namak chirakna
Sar mundatay hee owlay paray
Sabar ka phall meetha hota hai
Oonchi dukan, pheeka pakwan
Naach na jae, aangan terha
Lohay ke chanay chabana
Khiyali pulao pakana
Kharboozay ko dekh kar kharbooza rang pakarta hai
Aasman se gira, khajoor main atka
Ghar kii murghi daal baraber
Bacha baghal dhandora sheher main
Jitni chadar ho, utnay pair phelao
Daal main kaala
