This Pakistan-India Collaboration Might Just Be Bigger Than Mahira And Shahrukh

By Sarah Babar | 6 Feb, 2017

As far as Pakistan-India collaborations go, Shahrukh Khan and Mahira Khan coming together for the movie Raees has possibly been the biggest thing to have ever happened. And all the amazing work, of what we’ve seen in songs and trailers so far, is truly exciting. But there’s another collaboration that takes the cake from Mahira and Shahrukh.

What happens when two musicians from across borders collaborate on a song? What happens when two musicians, both at the top of their games in their countries, collaborate on a song? We’ll tell you what: magic.

Every time Pakistan and India come together and make music, it results in the most amazing sound ever. We saw the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahib collaborate with Bollywood and give life to a number of films in India; we saw Strings give music for Zinda and gave us an anthem to sing for the longest time ever; and we saw Salman Ahmed and Shubha Mudgal come together and give us Ghoom Taana (making us cry but shush).

This time, however, the collaboration is a unique one. And with the progression of time and sound, why shouldn’t it be?

There are hardly any people left who haven’t heard of SomeWhatSuper who, with their latest release, not only took Pakistan by the shoulders and shook some life into us but also gave a struggling musician, Abid Brohi, the chance to showcase his talent with one of their songs.

Their debut song, Bandook, is not only still topping charts nationwide after a whole year of its release, it is also possibly the first electronic song to be played at mehndis with people dancing to it.

War Brothers, the “Indian side” of the song, have been taking the Indian electronic music scene by storm, as well.

Ever since 2014, Parth & Jay have shown no signs of slowing down on the insane train, to success, they’re on.

Speaking to MangoBaaz, Feroz Faisal of SomeWhatSuper said that the kind of sound that they have achieved through this song is not one Pakistan is ready for.

SomeWhatSuper is known for introducing new genres to the electronic music scene in Pakistan, and incorporating commercial and electronic music on a mainstream level, they plan to do the exact same this time around as well.

Whether or not Pakistan is ready for the sound that comes with this SomeWhatSuper and War Brothers collaboration, I loved the song and hope it makes it as big as it should.

Here’s the song for you to listen to and go crazy over.
