This is a true testament to what bravery can do.
Saba Gul lost both of her hands due to a severe electric shock in 2005.
According to a TRT article, she was playing with her friends when a high-voltage wire fell on her. Her parents rushed her to the hospital and all the doctors could do was amputate her hands. Fourteen years later, Saba has led her life using her feet as her hands.
From the Buner district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Saba currently is a student at one of the best colleges in Peshawar, The Islamia College for Girls.
According to her interview, Saba said, “Life without hands was indeed very tough in the beginning…”
“…But with the passage of time, I have trained myself to be a normal person. I believe one should be bold and brave in facing the difficulties of life.”
Saba has been able to fully adapt to her new life, making her feet the focus of her routine. Saba dresses with her feet, writes with her feet and according to the article, irons and completes other household tasks as well. Imagine having to rebuild the way you operate yourself later on in life. For those born under these unfortunate circumstances, life is still challenging but having to re-teach yourself a whole new way of life as a young girl? Absolutely astonishing.
Though Saba is a force to be reckoned with herself, she said strong female activists like Asma Jahangir and Muniba Mazari, who also has a physical disability, were her role models in trying to deal with her struggles.
Saba said that she always dreamt of going to the best college in the province and was beyond thrilled when her admission went through. Like her role models, Saba also believes that education is the way to empower the women of Pakistan and she fully intends on making that her life purpose by becoming a lawmaker, working on behalf of women and for especially those who are physically challenged.
Her story caught the attention of many on social media and instantly, her journey was a source of inspiration to many all over the world.
